Goals / Objectives
The 2025 Consumer Food Safety Education Conference (CFSEC) will take place March 13-14 at the Sysco Headquarters in Houston, Texas. It's expected that at least 250 health and food safety professionals nationwide will attend. The 2025 CFSEC aims to reduce the rate of foodborne illness in the United States by empowering health and food safety professionals to be effective at engaging consumers on the topic of safe food handling practices that reduce the risk of illness.The conference will:focus on behavior change.provide opportunities to network and collaborate across many sectors serving consumers.feature strategies to influence food safety understanding, perceptions, and behaviors of consumers.provide a solution-based program to equip attendees with the resources needed to address their biggest food safety challenges.
Project Methods
The CFSEC uses a multi-disciplinary approach, highlighting foundational basics in marketing, communications, behavior research, food science, and regulatory to provide a holistic understanding of evidence-based practices that improve food handling behaviors. The collaborative nature of the CFSEC raises awareness of opportunities not yet realized for improving public health outcomes through food safety education.At the conference, PFSE will create an atmosphere that encourages dialogue about strategies proven to increase attitudinal and behavioral modification of safe food handling behaviors in the general public. The success of the CFSEC relies on effective speakers and programs that create memorable opportunities for food safety educators to develop their professional networks and to share practices, strategies, and future initiatives.PFSE's Board of Directors has served as an initial planning committee, assisting with general direction of the program development. Additionally, the conference co-chairs, who are selected as representatives of the attendees who typically attend, are providing input. Abstract submissions will be reviewed and blindly ranked by representatives of various sectors reflective of the target audience of the conference to establish conference programming.
