Non Technical Summary
Sustainable production of pork relies on efficient reproduction of pigs through the use of advanced breeding technologies for genetic advancement. The International Conference on Boar Semen Preservation will assemble scientists and industry leaders from around the world to share scientific advancements in the production, preservation and fertility of boar sperm. The conference will share state of the art information from experts on topics relevant to US swine production, that include spread of disease, gene distribution, sperm preservation and fertility, selection of sires and sperm for use with artificial insemination to improve farrowing rates and litter size. We anticipate more than 200 attendees to listen to 15 talks from global experts, in addition to interaction with scientists, students and industry representatives during short communications, poster displays, and commercial exhibition. All conference presentations are linked to journal articles published in Animal Reproduction Science. The conference will enable collaborative research and scientific exchange that could help implementation of new technologies into US swine production systems and aid in new product development for US companies to improve production efficiency and global competition.

Goals / Objectives
To offer the tenth International Conference on Boar Semen Preservation (ICBSP) in Spain in 2024 with a focus on basic and applied research discoveries related to the fertility of boar sperm. To stimulate multi- and cross-disciplinary exchange of novel, cutting-edge basic and applied research developments that improve boar sperm production, preservation, and fertility. To fostercollaborative research and scientific exchange between leading US scientists and experts abroad. To provide a stimulus for implementation of new technologies into US commercial swine production systems and to aid in new product development for US companies that improve production efficiency and global competition
Project Methods
Program and Conference DynamicsThe meeting will be held Aug. 19-22, 2024 in Catalonia, Spain at La Fabrica del Sucre and information and registration provided through the website (https://150elements.mnactec.cat/company/fabrica-de-sucre-de-vic/). The facility is confirmed for a large room where all presentations will take place and is located adjacent to where the exhibitors and sponsors will be located. The space for sponsors is big and flexible. The coffee breaks and lunches will be served in that area and is the same place where we will have space for posters. This layout will allow a high level of interaction of delegates with sponsors and exhibitors. Delegates will be provided a list of different hotels close to the conference venue and shuttles provided https://www.montanyahotel.com/en/.The conference is from Monday to Thursday with the main conference days Tuesday to Thursday and a conference close at Midday on Thursday. Dr. Marc Yeste (Chairperson) will preside over the opening ceremonies at the welcome reception on Monday August 19th and on Tuesday for the start of the main program. Following the Tuesday morning welcome, sessions for the speaker presentations will begin. The 2 ½ day conference is divided into 9 sessions that include the keynote address. A session chairperson will introduce each speaker and direct questions following the presentation and maintain the time schedule for the session. Each plenary speaker is provided a 40 minute time slot to make their presentation and allow time for questions. Breaks will be provided in each of the morning and afternoon sessions. The 45 minute morning and afternoon breaks will be concurrent with a poster session and the open exhibits. This is designed to create an atmosphere for informal scientific discussion of new science and technology. Sponsorship and exhibitor packages are available with different levels for support and space. The Xth ICBSP is organized by the international and local committees and hosted by the University of Girona. All information related to the conference will be located at Boar Semen Preservation 2024 - Xth International Conference (boarsemen2024.com). The 2½-day conference has nine plenary sessions: 1). Physiology of swine fertility in a changing climate; 2). Biomarkers of fertility in sperm and SP; 3).Immunology related to ejaculates, infectious diseases, and contaminants fin boar semen; 4). Epigenetics/RNAs, and OMIC's on sperm fertility; 5). Liquid sperm preservation at 5º C; 6). Biomarkers of boar fertility; 7). Regulations for international trade of boar sperm, status of global AI and boar sperm production; 8). Artificial Intelligence: applications sperm and boars; 9). Animal welfare: implications to pig reproduction. In addition, a round table of experts will also discuss how to help farmers with experimental design in the field. Abstract submission requests are set for Feb 28 2024.
