Non Technical Summary
Pork is the most popular meat source in the world. Infectious diseases, especially those caused by viral pathogens, can result in significant losses of swine production. The North American PRRS (NAPRRS)/NC229 International Conference for Swine Viral Diseases (ICSVD) is a prominent scientific meeting that focuses on cutting-edge and translational research/technologies of swine viral diseases. This meeting was originally formed in 2003 with a major focus onporcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus (PRRSV), which was the biggest challenge faced by global swine industry at that time. In recent years, the emergence and spread of new swine viruses have expanded the focus to include emerging and transboundary swine diseases. Integration with USDA NC229 multi-state projects on swine diseases provides the means to deliver a much larger and more comprehensive meeting for swine viral diseases. The 2023 ICSVD is the 20th anniversary of the conference. It will be held from December 1-2, 2023, at InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile Hotel, Chicago, IL, USA. The overall purpose of the conference is to provide a venue for academic researchers and industry professionals to share their latest research findings, exchange ideas, and develop collaborations. Tentative plan for the 2023 conference includes 6 basic scientific sessions, 3 special translational research sessions, a poster session, NC229 business meeting, and a banquet to celebrate 20th anniversary of NAPRRS/NC229 conference. Outcome of this conference will provide swine disease research community the most recent knowledge and technologies, as well as establish more collaborative effort for disease control and prevention.

Goals / Objectives
The major goal is to provide a venue for academic researchers and industry professionals to share their latest research findings, exchange ideas, and develop collaborations. Specifically, the 2023 NAPRRS/NC229 ICSVD will learn the historical success of swine disease control and prevention and enhance the implication of translational research/modern technologies in the field.
Project Methods
The tentative plan for the 2023 conference includes six plenary scientific sessions, a SHIC biosecurity session co-organized with the Swine Health Information Center, two special lunch sessions co-organized with industrial sponsors, and a poster session. In addition, the NC229 business meeting will be held for station representatives to update the research progress of each station. On Saturday evening (December 2), a special banquet with keynote talks will be held to celebrate the 20th anniversary of NAPRRS/NC229 conference. The ICSVD is organized through the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. The organizing committee members are representative of the scientific/extension experts and industrial professionals within the swine disease community from different countries.
