The funds awarded annually by USDA/NIFA through the 1890 Facilities Grant Program are shared by three programs of Agricultural Research, Cooperative Extension, and Teaching in the College of Agriculture & Food Sciences at Florida A&M University. The facilities plan was developed in tandem with the University's Strategic Plan. To achieve its mission, the College of Agriculture & Food Sciences will use innovative instructional, research, and outreach programs to educate and prepare undergraduate and graduate students to be world class leaders and problem solvers; conduct research to address critical issues and needs of stakeholders; and serve diverse communities by addressing their educational, economic and health issues and concerns. The effective delivery of up-to-date educational programs to various clientele groups using the most current methods of program delivery are essential to continued communications in the agricultural sector and to the development of rural communities. As such, traditional facilities and equipment will not meet all of the changing educational needs of diverse audiences. State-of-the-art facilities and equipment are necessary components to improving human capital development through research, teaching and extension programs. Facilities and equipment are needed at Florida A&M University that are compatible with research, teaching and extension facilities within the southern region and throughout the 1890 land grant community on a state, regional and national level. As evidence of its commitment to this goal Florida A&M's Priority 4, Goal 2 of its strategic plan states: FAMU will provide first-class facilities and services by continuously staying abreast of the best cutting-edge advances in facilities and services and identifying funding sources for upgrading facilities and services. Through funds provided by the 1890 Facilities Grant Program Florida A&M has been able to construct and renovate its facilities and purchase state-of-the-art equipment for its agricultural research, teaching, and extension programs. Florida A&M has made considerable progress and improvements to its facilities as a result of funds provided through the 1890 Facilities Grant Program. These improvements provide our faculty and students with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to continuously enhance and improve our agricultural research, extension, teaching programs. With the 2023-27 facilities funds Florida A&M will continue to expand and improve its facilities. The projects undertaken will serve a multi-functional role as they will simultaneously provide great benefit to the agricultural research, extension, and teaching programs.
