Non Technical Summary
More than 800 million people across the globe face food insecurity in 2023, including an estimated 24.6% of adults in the United States. It is important to significantly reduce hunger and malnutrition, and this proposed conference aims to educate agricultural policy makers, research scientists, agribusiness leaders, and others interested in combatting food insecurity about science-based technologies that can make substantial contributions to the efficient and sustainabe production of animal-source foods. Additional objectives of the conference include initiating an open and public dialogue on the important role of animal-source foods in a healthy human diet and demonstrating a more balanced approach to solving global hunger and malnutrition by integrating animal- and plant-source foods. The results expected include a better educated group of key individuals who are in a position to drive a major reduction in hunger and malnutrition. The anticipated impact on researchers will be to stimulate novel approaches to the efficient and sustainable production of animal-source foods, while the impacts on other key stakeholders will be to discuss and subsequently adopt new policies and approaches to reduce global hunger and malnutrition.

Goals / Objectives
The overall goal of the proposed work is to hold an educational event at the 2023 Borlaug Dialogue / World Food Prize Symposium, a very high-profile venue, to address the current state of technology for production of animal-source foods. This event will address avenues through which animal agriculture can make significant and sustainable contributions to the reduction of global hunger and malnutrition.
Project Methods
The proposed conference will consist of a series of five 20-minute presentations by internationally-recognized experts on topics such as nutritional strategies to reduce livestock greenhouse gas emissions, genome editing to breed healthier livestock, reproductive technologies for more efficient livestock production, precision livestock farming, and genomic selection technologies as part of a holistic approach to production of animal-source foods. These presentations will be followed by a 45-minute panel discussion / question & answer session with conference attendees.

Outputs
Target Audience:The target audience for this conference was global leaders in agriculture (including, but not limited to, research scientists, policymakers, agribusiness leaders, and environmentalists), as well as members of the general public. Changes/Problems:The only challenge faced during the conduct of this conference was that one of the invited speakers from Ethiopia was unable to obtain a visa to enter the United States. However, this speaker provided a pre-recorded presentation, which was shown during the event, and a member of his research team was able to participate in the question-and-answer session. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? This conference was an excellent professional development opportunity. In addition to livestock producers and members of the general public, several United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS) Scientific Exchange Program (SEP) Fellows participated in this conference How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest? This event was live-streamed. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals? Nothing Reported

Impacts
What was accomplished under these goals? The overall goal of the project (to address the current state of technology for production of animal-source foods & avenues through which animal agriculture can make significant and sustainable contributions to the reduction of global hunger and malnutrition) was met. Conference attendees listened to world-renowned speakers and then engaged in active dialogue regarding how modern agricultural biotechnologies are being used for the sustainable production of animal-source foods and consequently contributing to the reduction of global hunger and malnutrition.
