Non Technical Summary
Alcorn State University has made significant improvements to its physical infrastructure during the past fifteen or more years. The 1890 Facilities Grant Program has played a key role in these improvements. Funds from the program were used to construct our Extension, Research, and Teaching facility, the Environmental Ecology and Natural Resources facility, Ag Research Farm and Technology Center, Agriculture Product Development Center, and Biotechnology facilities. The university has renovated several facilities for research, extension, and teaching activities with the use of 1890 Facilities funds, and we have broadly instituted repairs and renovations. The above objectives and projects are necessary to ensure our participation in the development of human capital.

Goals / Objectives
Funds from the current request for assistance (2023-2027) will be used to construct an Animal Science/STEM/Arena; upgrade swine center; upgrade poultry facility; upgrade greenhouse facility, upgrade teaching facilities; upgrade farm and other related roads routes; and procure equipment to support agricultural research, teaching, and extension programs at the university. All funds have been and continue to be used to support the purpose of the 1890 Facilities Grant Program, which is the acquisition and improvement of agricultural and food sciences facilities and equipment. This is to ensure that we participate fully in the development of human capital in food and agricultural sciences. Alcorn State University will continue to build and improve its capacities in the areas of agricultural research, teaching, and extension/outreach during the next five years (2023-2027) with funds provided under the 1890 Facilities Grant Program.
Project Methods
Alcorn State University is committed to a process of continuing improvement in programs and services with much emphasis on the acquisition and improvement of agricultural and food sciences facilities. These facilities are located at the main entrance of the University main campus. Further, since more funds are needed to construct a multi-species animal science facility, funds received for 2013-2018 will continue to be used in our construction efforts to create the Animal Science Center and added to 2023-2027 funds. To maintain currency in our research, extension and teaching activities related to agricultural and food sciences, Alcorn State University must continuously upgrade and replenish applicable equipment and upgrade/renovate existing facilities in a systematic manner. It is anticipated that all funds allocated from the 1890 Facilities Grant Program for Alcorn State University including subsequent allocations during the 2018-2022 period will be used to complete the above objectives. Following is a break- down of the estimated use of anticipated 1890 Facilities Grant Program funds for the 2023-2027 request.
