Progress 09/01/23 to 08/31/24
Outputs Target Audience:The target audience for this project include community-based educators, Extension educators, healthcare providers, and other relevant professionals working in local substance use prevention and recovery efforts. 125 participants were enrolled in PROFIT during this reporting period. Changes/Problems:There was a delay in between program creation and launchdue to legal processes pursuant to finalizing a no-cost Licenure Agreement with the University. Once finalized in late 2023, state recruitment began internally (with Extension personnel) in Q4 of 2023 and externally to state and national partners in Q1 of 2024. Our team has been granted a No Cost Extension to continue recruitment, enrollment, evaluation, and dissemination efforts in Year Three at both state and national levels. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? In addition to the creation of the PROFIT course, the following in-service training was offered to Extension agents within Family and Consumer Sciences through the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. Huff, N., McCulley, M., Workman, L., May, K., Elswick, A., Adedokun, O., & Bejda, M.(Mar. 1, 2024). How to PROFIT. 1-hour statewide virtual training for FCS agents on the PROFIT program. Reach: 75 agents. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest?PROFIT has been marketed/disseminated to state and national professionals throughpeer-reviewed and invited presentations, as well as an in-presspeer-reviewed journal article, as noted in the Major Activities section of this report. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals?Year Three (NCE) will focus on continued participant enrollment and matriculation at both state and national levels, as well as program evaluation and dissemination of results.
Impacts What was accomplished under these goals?
Objective 2: Pilot PROFIT Program. To maintain program fidelity, six Kentucky CES agents who previously received Addiction 101 and RYF training (through face-to-face or virtual synchronous delivery) were asked to pilot PROFIT upon its completion. Objective 3: Market PROFIT Program. Concurrent with module development and pilot, PROFIT personnel worked with University of Kentucky Family and Consumer Sciences Extension in-house graphic design team to design logo, branding, and marketing materials for PROFIT program. Objective 4: Launch PROFIT Program. Launched PROFIT program, beginning with Extension professionals working within the four Kentucky counties identified for Phase 1 recruitment. Objective 5: Scale Statewide. Recruitment extended to Extension professionals working within the remaining KY counties identified for Phase 2 and Phase 3 inclusion. Objective 6: Scale Nationally. Received green-light from the University of Kentucky Office of Technology Commercialization (UK Innovate, Social Innovation) to begin enrolling participants external to the University at the state and national level. Recruitment extended to external partners (both Extension and non-Extension) through a no-cost licensure agreement with the Univeristy of Kentucky to use the Recovering Your Financescurriculum, which is made available to participants who complete the online PROFIT program. State and national enrollment are ongoing and will continue into Year 3. Objective 7: Evaluate PROFIT Program.(Started efforts) Started evaluation efforts for PROFIT program. Participants who complete the online course are invited to complete an evaluation survey at the end of each of three major course sections. These efforts are ongoing and will continue into Year 3. Objective 8: Disseminate PROFIT Program & Promote Sustainability.(Started efforts) Have begun present program and initial evaluation results to Extension and other professional organizations through conference presentations and publications. 1. Objective 1: Develop PROFIT Program (Year One). We created the Canvas Catalog Course, PROFIT: Promoting Recovery Online through Financial Instruction and addiction Training, housed on the University of Kentucky UK Online professional development platform. PROFIT is a self-paced online course for professionals designed to take approximately two hours to complete. It includes 16 asynchonous modules including an introduction and conclusion; the University of Kentucky programs Addiction 101 and Recovering Your Finances; and cultural and rural competency. Each module contains a 5- to 7-minute educational video and corresponding quiz to gauge user's retention of learning content.
