Non Technical Summary
PVVC serves clients in 15 plus counties in central South Dakota, all of which would be considered rural communities. We also maintain veterinary services in two auction markets in central South Dakota. The clinic has experienced exciting and significant growth since 2011. To meet the demand for veterinary services by clients and producers, PVVC must purchase more equipment and is steadily hiring more personnel. PVVC is requesting $125,000 to purchase much needed equipment to increase efficiency and ability to serve producers and clients at the auction markets and in the rural communities. Needed equipment includes: electronic identification reader, portable scale head, hydraulic tilt chute, power float, portable calf chute, portable ultrasound, AI breeding barn and two semen tanks, and semen testing equipment, and a vet truck. PVVC serves a rural vet shortage area where agriculture is the primary industry. New equipment will allow PVVC to more efficiently and cost effectively serve this area of need.

Goals / Objectives
The major goals of the project is to improve effiicincy at Prairie View Veterinary Clinic. The acquisition of more equipment will allow the practice to better serve our clients and the salebarns of rural South Dakota.PVVC is requesting $125,000 to purchase much needed equipment to increase efficiency and ability to serve producers and clients at the auction markets and in the rural communities. Project Methods
The project will be completed in steps over the course of a year. Renovations will have to occur inorder to implement the new tilt chute. The Ultrasound, semen testing equipment, scale head, and EID reader will be purchased promptly. The breeding barn, semen tanks, and float equipment will be purchased in six months in preparation for the busy spring season. The calf chute is a custom manufactured piece and will take a year to build and payments will be made in increments. Clients, producers, and Auction markets will be notified of the acquistion of the new equipment and the increased availability of services.

Outputs
Target Audience: Nothing Reported Changes/Problems:A major change/problem we have faced is the significant increase in electronics and steel causing some of the equipment to be more expensive. Prairie View Veterinary clinic has assumed financial responsibility for the increased cost. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? Nothing Reported How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest? All communities have benefited from the use of the new equipment. We have been able to schedule the same serivce in multiple areas with the acquisition of the new equipment allowing better service to our rural communities. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals?During the next reporting period the tilt chute will be fully installed allowing us to upgrade a clinic location and another calf chute will be able to be manufactored allowing every clinic location to have a calf chute.

Impacts
What was accomplished under these goals? The purchase of the EID reader, scale head, vet truck, ultrasound, breeding barn, and semen testing equipment and tanks has significantly improved our efficiency. Additional trips to transport equipment have been decreased, the ability to scheduel the same service in multiple areas on the same day occurs frequently and the addition of equipment has allowed us to continue expansion to regions in need of veterinary services.

    Progress 09/01/21 to 08/31/22

    Outputs
Target Audience: Nothing Reported Changes/Problems:The largest problem we have faced is the significant cost change of equipment from when estimates were gathered when equipment estimates were gathered. The cost of steal, and inflation has significantly impacted our original estimates and some of the times lines as the tilt chute took an additonal 8 months longer to arrive as well as the used vet truck market made it difficult to acquire a used truck. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? Nothing Reported How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest? The purchase of veterinary equipment has allowed us to continue to exapnd into more areas and open more locations. In the fall of 2022 we were able to open another satelite location selling product and offering more large animal serive work after another practiceclosed another location and let go of two veterinarians. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals?During the next reporting period we plan to finalize the completion of the tilt chute in the Wessington Springs location and have our fourth calf chute manufactored so each clinic location has a portable calf chute that are used heavily for spring and fall calf work.

    Impacts
What was accomplished under these goals? Prairie View Veterinary Clinic has been able to increase efficiency with the purchase of the EID reader, scale head, power float, ultrasound, breeding barn, semen tanks and testing equipment, and a vet truck. Trips between clinics to shuffle around equipment are significantly decreased. This has allowed Prairie View Veterinary Clinic to continue growth and expansion and maintain veterinary staff.
