Goals / Objectives
To support animal health research for the benefit of the general welfare through improved health of domestic livestock, poultry, aquatic animals and other income-producing animals critical to the country's food supply as well as the welfare of the producers and consumers of animal products, performed by NCSU faculty. NCSU faculty conduct reserch work to advance treatment and prevent diseases in domestic livestock, poulty, aquatic animals as well as horses.
Project Methods
Publications and scientifc presentations. Reseearch opportunities for students to learn. Seed funding, if applicable, to lead to application submissions to USDA, NIH, industry sponsors, National Pork Board, NC Horse Council, US Poultry & Egg, etc.

Target Audience:We have connected with key opinion leaders in the poultry and swine industry in the state of North Carolina through monthly email newsletters Changes/Problems:Covid had a significant impact on our animal research for the past year. We expect to be fully open again as of July 6th What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided?We have grown our undergraduate research program and these students have been involved in our research How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest?Monthly email newsletters that provide updates on our research What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals?Identify needs of the faculty to seed their research in the food animal area.

Impacts
What was accomplished under these goals? We provided an investment in equipment and resources specific for Swine research in the past year. We upgraded housing (swine pens) and equipment (Swine cart and Chute) to expand our needs.
