Progress 09/01/22 to 08/31/23
Outputs Target Audience:The immediate stakeholders of our work were Extension educators and partners in the identified cooperating states (MA, MD, MI, MN, NH, NY, OH, PA, WV, WI). Partners could include woodland owner organizations, other state agencies, land trusts, and Extension colleagues in other related areas. The subawardee projects targeted family forest owners in their respective states. Changes/Problems:COVID dramtically changed how Extension programming happened over the period of the project. In the end, some creative sub-awards were accomplished. Also, with the length of the project, there was the expected turn-over of Extension professional involved in the project. Together these did not drammtically change the approach, but affected how and whether we were able to spend all the funds. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? The intention of this project was to bring Natural Resources Extension professionals together to gain professional development from each other. A group of Extension professionals and partners were brought together 3 times during this project. The first meeting was to share Extension programming and review the nedds assesment results, in October 2020. With travel still uncertain, the group came together again in January 2022 to share updates on sub-award projects and any other updates on legacy programming. We finally were able to hold an in-person gathering in March 2023 with all the sub-award states and a few additional partners. In total, Extension professionals from MN, WI, MI, OH, NY, PA, VT, VA, MD, and MA participated in this group. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest? All participating states, mentioned above, have access to all the sub-awards project materials along with other curriculum, publications, videos, etc that were shared amongst the project groups. We presented the needs assesment results at an ANREP meeting. We are currently in conversation with ANREP as to whether their website could support the toolbox. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals? This is the final reporting period for this project.
Impacts What was accomplished under these goals?
Objective 1: Completed in first reporting period. Conducted a needs assessment for Natural Resources Extension colleagues in the Northeast and Midwest regarding a resource and planning workshop, and their current investment in legacy planning programming. Results were compiled and a final report was created. Objective 2: Conducted a workshop with Natural Resources Extension colleagues and state partners in the Northeast and Midwest. The workshop provided opportunities to share experiences and materials, program plan for pilot efforts, and address other needs as identified in objective 1. The project manager held a virtual workshop in October 2020 where nine states and 20 people attended; this included Extension colleagues and partners. Additionally, the program manager conducted a workshop at the ANREP conference in May 2021 to bring in broader perspectives related to the needs identified in the needs assessment survey and October meeting. An in-person gathering was held in March 2023where sub-awardees will shared their subaward projects, other legacy programming, and identified further needs. Objective 3: Outline has been created, sub-awardee projects have been collected. Working with ANREP to explore the odea of hosting the toolbox on their site. Currently all states involved in the project have access to all state's materials in a Google Drive folder. Looking for ways to share beyond this project group. Objective 4: A new Canvas course was piloted in Wisconsin in 2022, revised, and run again in Spring 2023. Impact evaluations will continue following the fiscal end of this grant. Other states piloted different types of programming, so tools other than classes were created to support legacy planning.

Progress 09/01/21 to 08/31/22
Outputs Target Audience:The immediate stakeholders of our work were Extension educators and partners in the identified cooperating states (MA, MD, MI, MN, NH, NY, OH, PA, WV, WI). Partners could include woodland owner organizations, other state agencies, landtrusts, and Extension colleagues in other related areas. Sub-Awardees: Funds are being used by 5 states to conduct legacy related programming locally. These funds supported outreach to family foresty owners, landowners of color, and legal advisors. Changes/Problems:COVID continued to be a problem during this reporting period delaying several sub-awardprojects.One beneficial change, due to COVID and the delay of activities, is the sub-awardproposals to create new, innovative programming to address the need for more distance and virtual learning. We have current plans to bring partner states together, after pilot projects are completed, to further share lessons learned. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided?Nothing this reporting period, but an event is planned for Spring 2023. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest?

Partners could include woodland owner organizations, other state agencies, land trusts, and Extension colleagues in other related areas. Changes/Problems:Due to COVID, our timeline for the remaining activities has been delayed. We applied for and were approved for an NCE to continue this project another year. Two in-person meetings were postponed and finally scheduled in fall 2020. Sub-grants to participating states have been awarded, but were obviously delayed with COVID programming restrictions. One beneficial change, due to COVID and the delay of activities, is the sub-grant proposals to create new, innovative programming to address the need for more distance and virtual learning. Progress 09/01/19 to 08/31/20
Outputs Target Audience:For the initial part of the project, we conducted a needs assessment. The immediate stakeholders of our work in the first year wereExtension educators and partners in the identified cooperating states (MA, MD, MI, MN, NH, NY, OH, PA, WV, WI). Partners could include woodland owner organizations, other state agencies, land trusts, and Extension colleagues in other related areas. Changes/Problems:Due to COVID, our timeline for the remainingactivities has been delayed. Two in-person meetings were postponed. Due to on-going concerns, we will re-evlautate how to conduct those activities do achieve the objectives of the grant. One beneficial change, due to COVID and the delay of activities, is the potential to create new, innovative programming to address the need for more distance and virtual learning. The grant budget includes $32,000 to contract with participating states to implement legacy planning programs. This will allow states to pilot new forms of legacy planning that will contribute to the overarching goal of our project. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided?

Impacts What was accomplished under these goals?
Goal: Extension educators in the Northeast and Midwest will have a solid foundation for future legacy planning programming. Extension educators in both workshop participating and non- participating states will have access to an online toolbox and colleagues to support legacy planning. Year One Report: Objective 1: COMPLETEConducted a needs assessment for Natural Resources Extension colleagues in the Northeast and Midwest regarding a resource and planning workshop, and their current investment in legacy planning programming. Results were compiled and a final report was created. Objective 2: IN PROGRESSConduct a workshop with Natural Resources Extension colleagues and state partners in the Northeast and Midwest. The workshop will provide opportunities to share experiences and materials, program plan for pilot efforts, and address other needs as identified in objective 1.STATUS- The project manager and project team planneda workshop for Extension colleagues and partners. However, the workshop was to be held in April 2020, and had to be rescheduled due to COVID. A new date is established, but due to ongoing concerns, we may have to pivot and do something online and use in-person time later for another grant objective.
