Non Technical Summary
Owasco Lake is a lake priority for the Divisioin of Water. Owasco Lake was listed on the 2016 303(d) list on part 3b (the pollutant and source needs to be verfied) based on the frequency of harmful algae bloom (HABs) occurrences over the past few years resulting in impacts to recreation and drinking supply uses. In-waterbody model devlopment will support the ongoing work by the Cayuga County Department of Planning and Econonomic Development to develop a nine element (9E) watershed plan for the Owasco Lake Watershed. The in-lake modeling results will be included as an addendum to the 9E watershed plan. The lake nutrient model that will be used for Owasco Lake is the CE-QUAL-W2 model; the Cayuga Lake Model (CLM) Dreissenid mussel model shouid be incorporated into the model if possible. The CE-QU AL-W2 model is 2-dimensional water quality and hydrodynamic model that may be used for rivers, estuaries, lakes, reservoir and river basin systems that was developed by Portland State University. To complete the in-lake model to support Cayuga County Department of Planning and Economic Development, NYSDEC requires assistance to collect data to input into the modek (as needed); calibrate the model for use by NYSDEC and Cayuga County Department of Planning and Development in the development of the 9E plan; run scenarios; tehnical support to interpret model results, assumptions, and limitations; and data visualization.Awarded Start Date: 1/1/18Sponsor: NYS Department of Environmental Conservation
