Outputs Target Audience:The target audience of this project was active teacher of all discipline from secondary schools (8th to 12th grade), mainly from the Humacao Educational Region. A total of 25 active teacher was impacted during the project life, 62% of those targeted active teachers working in schools from the Promise Zone from the municipalities of Fajardo, Naguabo and Ceiba. The rest active teachers are from San Juan (3), Ponce (1), Juncos (4), las Piedras (1) and Canovanas. In terms of teaching disciplines, 43% of active teachers taught earth sciences courses, 22% general sciences, 12% Spanish, 10% all subjects (special education), 6% Arts, 5% English and 2% History. Changes/Problems:The biggest challenge to implement this project was the situation of the earthquake in PR at the end of 2018 and the COVIC pandemic in 2019. These challenges, together with the closure of public schools in Puerto Rico and the relocation of teachers, led to expanding the audience. of the project beyond theHumacao Regional Education, in order to achieve the established goals. In the same way, the limited access to the classroom in person and the internet connection limitations during the virtual courses, caused the coaching approach to be redesigned and offered in a kind of workshop. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided?this project providew 190hrs ofprofessional development and immersive outdoors experiential learning program in food, agriculture, natural resources and humans (FANH) science. This progam inlcudesix (6) workshops that integrate nine (9) immersive outdoors experiential learning activities and coaching support during one academic year, to participant teachers. Workshops topics was: Agriculture literacy: understanding the intersection between agriculture and society Principle of earth science to aboard agriculture-related science Learning in natural outdoors Soil diversity, soil conservation Biodiversity in natural areas and agriculture sites Curriculum integration: development of pedagogical activities in agriculture science related The immersive outdoors experiential learning activities include fieldd visit to: FoodsCape Caribe Inc. Natural Reserve Lagunas de Humacao Natural Reserve Medio Mundo & Daguao Olimpia Forest Punta Tuna Natural Reserve Bosque de San Patricio Piñones Natural Reserve Rio Blanco Punta Yegua Yabucoa How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest?For the dissemination of the results of the project, two publications are being worked on for the 2024 edition of Perspectiva y Cruces magazine. Both journals are from the Universidad Ana G. Méndez and have an international scope. Similarly, at the research symposium to be held in October 2023, a poster will be presented with the results of the project. 35 active teachers from the discipline of earth science, general science, Spanish, English, arts, and history complete 190hrs of professional development and immersive outdoors experiential learning program in food, agriculture, natural resources and humans (FANH) science. The professional development and immersive outdoors experiential learning program develop 190hrs of workshop related to food, agriculture, natural resources and humans (FANH) science and nine (9) immersive outdoors experiential learning activities. 92% of active teachers improve the agriculture related science literacy and awareness as results of the pre and post-test of each activity develoed in workshop and outdoors experiential learning. 90% of the active teachers strengthen their ability in the development of education and extension activities that deliver science knowledge to students (inside and outside classroom activities) 85% of the active teachers developed curriculum resources (educational hands-on activity guide) to integrate FANH concepts into their classes to engage students in the development of agriculture related science interests and careers. 500 students was impacted with FANH sicence educational clasrrom activities based in place base learning.

Outputs Target Audience:During this project period (2/15/2019 to 2/14/2020) project impact 10 secondary teacher from 8 to 12 grade for all discipline, recruitment in January 2019. This participante complete 156 hours of training workshop and participate in 7 immersive outdoors experiential learning activities. The final 36 hours and the 2immersive outdoors experiential learning activities will be continued from january to may 2020. Outputs Target Audience:During this project period (2/15/2018 to 2/14/2019) project impact 20 secondary teacher from 8 to 12 grade for all disciplines (spanish, english, mathematic, history, and science). The 89% of the target audience is form the Humacao Educational Region, that is part of the Promise Zone of USDA. The first group of 10 teacher complete the six workshop and the other gruop of 10 are in progress. In relation to students impacted by the project, three hundred and seventy four (374) students from grades 8th, 9th, and 10th participated in the implementation of FANH science concepts classes. The number of students to be impacted that were included in the first year of the proposal was 250. There is an increase of 124 students that benefited from the FANH science concepts classes offered by the participating teachers. In the firts group, acoordiing with the resulto of the external evaluation, 96% of the participant teacher completed the 192 hours of continuing education and they reported to be highly satisfied (80 - 100%) with the 6 workshops and outdoor experiences offered, and very impressed with the amount of knowledge of the resources. Changes/Problems:During this period the major problems was the recriutment and retention of teachers for the workshop, training and experiential learning experience in farms. This issue is related to change in school district and the Puerto Rico Departmentof Education, that are closing schools and change teacher to other school. Project staff decide to open space for interest teacher out of the Humacao Educational Region. Also we are experiment som problems with the implementation of the coaching program, because some times staff can meet with teachers during their class period because problem in school. For that reason project staff decide to work the coaching staff with the 20 participants at the same time in some meeting after complete de 192 hours of continuing education. Those coaching meeting will be plan to star at January 2020. Also, providing the next nine (9) inmersive outdoors experiential learning activities and starting to working with the edition of the educational educational hands-on activity guide. The project will continued with the coaching of the participant and the development of the final close activity that will be programate for november 2020.
