Project Methods
Liaison will be conducted with stakeholders within Ohio to ensure attainment of primary objective relevant to needs of the state. Specific activities will include coordination of pesticide clearance requests, notification of IR4 programs and research objectives, representation in appropriate regional and national meetings and promotion of IR4 and objectives with Ohio stakeholders. Evaluation will be primarily based upon projects completed of relevance to Ohio speciatly crop growers and registration of new uses and new active ingredients.

Progress 10/01/20 to 09/30/21

Outputs
Target Audience:This project provide leadership and liaison to IR4 stakeholders in Ohio, and it participates in the food crop terminal residue, and ornamental crop research programs, developed and funded through IR-4. Ohio specialty crop farmers who produce fruits, vegetables and ornamental crops in unprotected and protected environments are the primary target audience. Contact with industry stakeholders occurs throughout the year. As IR-4 State Liaison and OSU State Specialist, specialty crop growers know they have quick access to me through various means of communicaiton including telephone and email. Liaison activities include working with growers and other IPM specialists within the state to prioritize and promote residue projects of critical importance at the regional and national level. Changes/Problems: Nothing Reported What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided?During 2021 our lab hosted Dr. Zahid Hussain, Associate Professor, The University of Agriculture Peshawar, Pakistan. Dr. Hussain received training in the conduct of field-based GLP research and analytical chemistry. He also participated in the 2021 IR-4 National Food Use Workshop, during which he established relationships with IR-4 staff that will be valuable to him upon return to Pakistan. Field Research Director Robinson regularly participates in GLP training provided by the Western Regional office of IR-4. During 2020 Robinson and Doohan participated in the National IR-4 Training Workshop in San Diego. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest? Results are reported to communities of interest in the state through educational programs offered by the Ohio Produce Growers and Marketing Association, the OSU Nursery Short Course, The Ohio Fruit Growers' Society, The Ohio Muck Crops School, and the Ohio Turfgrass Conference and Show. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals?I will continue to serve as the Ohio IR-4 State Liaison. Allison Robinson will continue in her role as Ohio State University IR-4 Field Research Director. Drs. Francesca Hand, Sally Miller and Melanie Ivey, faculty in the Department of Plant Pathology, are active participants in the IR-4 Program

Impacts
What was accomplished under these goals? During the first 4 years of the project I served as the OSU Field Research Director for the IR-4 Program. For 2021 the role of FRD was transferred to HCS Research Associate Allison Robinson who will continue to serve in that capacity. The role of FRD involves directing the GLP \and non-GLP projects funded by IR-4 programs. Twenty five GLP Food Crop residuce projects, 22 Evironmental Horticulture projects, six Crops Safety and Efficacy projects, two Biopesticide and Organic Support project. and two Integrated Solutions project were completed during. In my continuing role as the Ohio State Liaison I represented the specialty crop industry needs for research on new pest management tools at the IR-4 NC Regional Priority Setting and the Food Use Workshop meetings held each year. Facilitation and planning involved development and submission of Project Clearance Requests by faculty, supporting and negotiating to obtain prioritization of projects especially important to farmers in Ohio. I also served as the scientific authority for the IR-4 work conducted by personnel in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science.

What was accomplished under these goals? During the reporting period I served as the OSU-based Field Research Director for the IR-4 Program. This involved directing the GLP \and non-GLP projects funded under the Food Crops program, the Envirionmental Horticulture program, and the Biopesticide & Organic Support program of IR-4. This period was the fourth in which OSU participated in the GLP Food Crop Residues project. Participation required that faculty and staff receive GLP training, develop significant infrastructure, and Standard Operating Procedure manuals. In the role of Ohio State Liaison I represented the specialty crop industry needs for research on new pest management tools at the virtual IR-4 NC Regional Priority Setting meeting in August and the virtual Food Use Workshop held in September. Facilitation and planning involved development and submission of Project Clearance Requests by faculty, supporting and negotiating to obtain prioritization of projects especially important to farmers in Ohio.

Target Audience:The overall purpose of this project is to provide leadership and liaison to IR4 stakeholders in Ohio. Ohio specilaty crop farmers who produce fruits, vegetables and ornamental crops in unprotected and protected environments are the primary target audience. Primary contact periods occur during the fall, winter and early spring months that are outside the short reporting period covered here (July 5, 2017 - September 30, 2017). Nevertheless, as State Specialist, specialty crop growers know they have quick access to me through various means of communicaiton including telephone and email. Liaison activities include working with growers and other IPM specialists within the state to prioritize and aggresively promote residue projects of critical importance at the regional and national level. Changes/Problems: Nothing Reported What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? The region provided an IR-4 NCR GLP Training session on August 21, prior to the NCR Planning meeting. Along with OSU Research Associate Chengsong Hu, I took advantage of this opportunity. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest? Nothing Reported What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals?Efforts will include a high level of interaction with growers from across the state through participation in organizations including the Ohio Produce Growers and Markters Association, Mid-Ohio Growers Conference, Ohio Fruit Growers Society and the Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association. Liaison activities include working with growers and other IPM specialists within the state to prioritize and aggresively promote residue projects of critical importance at the regional and national level. A related aspect of the role is to work with researchers in the state who need to understand opportunities they have to support and increase the impact of their research through participating in the IR4 project.
