Goals / Objectives
Develop, quantify, and disseminate integrated management strategies that benefit soil health and support sustainable, profitable crop production in semi-arid agricultural regions using state of the art observation of soil moisture dynamics to improve crop condition and foster climate resilience.
Project Methods
In alignment with the strategic vision of the ARS Northern Plains Agricultural Research Laboratory, the Cooperator will conduct research and extension activities that (1) assess diverse dryland cropping systems that incorporate sustainable practices such as cover cropping and livestock grazing for their potential to improve soil health and system resilience, (2) integrate emerging remote sensing technologies with precision soil monitoring to facilitate agricultural decision support and minimize climate impacts on overall yield.
