Goals / Objectives
Collect soil from conservation-oriented farms in South Carolina to support calculations of root-zone enrichment of soil organic C and N fractions. This objective will help fulfill our research needs to develop improved understanding of conservation agricultural management and make recommendations for climate-resilient forages and crops.
Project Methods
Work with private land owners to identify suitable farms having implemented conservation practices over a number of years. Arrange for collection of soil at multiple soil depths so that samples can be analyzed for soil organic C and N fractions for calculation of root-zone enrichment. A total of 10 farms with a minimum of 3 fields per farm are expected be sampled yearly over a 5-year period.
