Goals / Objectives
To provide laboratory support for molecular-related research (e.g., Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA extraction, DNA sequencing) to further augment phylogenetic and systematic analysis of Insect and Acari.
Project Methods
ARS will collect samples of insects and mites from both field and/or various museums. The Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of Natural History, Laboratories of Analytical Biology (LAB) using their state-of-art and high throughput equipment will extract, amplify, sequence, and analyze DNA from these samples for use in ongoing systematic studies of insects and mites. Results and data will be shared with ARS which will subsequently make it available to the scientific community.
