Goals / Objectives
The objective of this project is to utilize modern remote sensing technology to accurately georeference individual trees in the USDA pecan orchards at Somerville and Brownwood, Texas.
Project Methods
The project will use modern geo-referencing technology supported by remote sensing (unmanned aerial vehicles, etc.) to define the coordinates of the pecan trees contained within USDA research and provenance orchards located in Somerville and Brownwood, Texas. The work will develop extensive and detailed data amenable to incorporation into an appropriate database(s) that will provide highly accurate and permanent records of tree location, identification, phenotype, etc., for utilization by reserachers and growers in crop improvement, varietal identification, etc.
