Goals / Objectives
Cooperator will use funds to hire a technician to operate a full-scale mobile P- extraction system to treat manure from participating dairies, perform testing on the system, and test design parameters on a pilot-scale system. Testing of various means will be carried out to demonstrate the recovery and reuse of the final diatomaceous earth filtration media in order to reduce daily operating costs. The goal is to treat the liquid dairy manure within a period of several hours.
Project Methods
The cooperator's technician will work with ARS scientists to demonstrate a trailer-mounted, dairy manure treatment system designed to separate solids, remove phosphorus through an iron sulphate sorption reaction, and test the implementation of daily operating cost reductions to the system on cooperating dairy farms, and on a pilot-scale version of the system.
