Goals / Objectives
Evaluate the pea core collection for reaction to powdery mildew (Erysiphe pisi).
Project Methods
Identify accessions from the Pea Single Plant-Derived Core Collection (PSP) with resistance to powdery mildew. Three hundred and fourteen (3140 USDA Pisum sativum accessions from the PSP and all the P. abyssinicum and P. fulvum accessions (22 and 37, respectively) in the USDA collection will be evaluated at two locations in 2015. A randomized complete block design with three replicates will be planted in disease nurseries at Corvallis, Oregon. Visual assessment of the disease severity will be completed with the onset of powdery mildew (late season). The disease severity key for powdery mildew of pea (0 to 10 scale) developed by Falloon et al. (2010) will be used in the disease assessment. The upper leaflet surfaces will be assessed.
