Goals / Objectives
The objective of this cooperation is to increase seed amounts of approximately 5,000 lines of a Nested Association Mapping (NAM) population. Seed will be increased to levels that will permit phenotypic testing and characterization of the NAM lines at multiple locations and environments. Another purpose of the seed increase is to produce seed for distribution to interested scientists who wish to work with the NAM population.
Project Methods
Approximately 5000 lines of a Nested Association Mapping (NAM) population will be grown and harvested in a counter season nursery in the vicinity of Tecoman, Mexico, in the winter of 2014-2015. Seed of the lines will be planted in small plots in a nursery of approximately 6 hectares. Forced self-pollination techniques will be employed on the plants during seed production to maintain the purity of the lines within the population. Seed cotton will be ginned on location and seed will be shipped to cooperators in the U.S. using proper permitting and phytosanitary procedures, including fumigation by APHIS agents at port of entry.
