Significant Activities that Support Special Target Populations This is the final report for Specific Cooperative Agreement #3635-32000- 015-4 titled National Research Initiative competitive conference for 8th International Mareks disease symposium. ARS received a total of $10,000 from NRI-CGP to provide partial support for doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows residing in the USA to present their research findings at 8th International Mareks disease symposium held from July 6- 10, 2008 in Townsville, Australia. Participants in the conference included Mareks disease researchers from USA, Europe, South America, and many other countries around the world. The presentations covered various areas of Mareks disease research including pathogenesis, diagnosis, molecular biology, and vaccine development. Twelve keynote speakers who are considered international experts in their area of research led the plenary sessions. A total of 68 presentations were given at the conference including oral and poster presentations. The conference was a success and the objective of this specific cooperative agreement was completely achieved by enabling two graduate students and one post doc research associate residing in the USA to present their research at this important international conference on Mareks disease, a disease that continues to be a major problem for the poultry industry worldwide. ADODR communicated with organizing committee and added input to the final decision for disbursement of funds.
