Goals / Objectives
Consistently review and update the priorities for research in all facets of the grape and wine sector (including table grapes, wine grapes, raisins, process grapes and wine producers), increase the number and diversity of stakeholder meetings and forums.
Project Methods
American Vineyard Foundation (AVF) will maintain constant interaction with industry, research and extension organziation to: identify national grape and wine research priorities that are flexible and incorporate unforseen research issues and industry priorities; identify regional research on important regional issues as well as broad national priorities; and includes the development of outreach materials, updating information on the NGWI website, and working with the diverse stakeholder communities within NGWI as additional objectives and priorities are identified and defined.

Outputs
Progress Report Objectives (from AD-416) Consistently review and update the priorities for research in all facets of the grape and wine sector (including table grapes, wine grapes, raisins, process grapes and wine producers), increase the number and diversity of stakeholder meetings and forums. Significant Activities that Support Special Target Populations The major accomplishments for the reporting period May 1, 2005 December 31, 2007: 1) Establishment of a grape and grape products research framework organization and 2) Administration and infrastructure development of a grape and grape products research framework organization. The research framework organization provides for identification and integration of research priority subjects and topics, incorporating regional and national need, scientific assessment, and impact on grape and grape products production. The research framework organization provides information on critical research topics to researchers and facilitates, the coordination of research activity, assisting in building multi-disciplinary and cross-agency research teams to address key problems facing grape and grape products producers. Project monitoring was accomplished by meetings between the American Foundation staff and ARS scientists and administrators to discuss project progress and by providing information on project activities through the National Grape and Wine Initiative newsletter and website (www.ngwi.org). This project is directly related to NP301 Component 3: Genetic Improvement of Crops and NP 303 Compenent 3: Plant Disease Resistance since it deals with resistance to root-knot nematodes.
