Progress 09/01/02 to 03/30/04
Outputs The findings from the research effort to assess the implications for U.S. agriculture of a Free Trade Area for the Americas (FTAA) were released in an Agricultural Economic Report in March 2004. This report describes the effects on U.S. agriculture of the trade liberalization that has already occurred in the Western Hemisphere. It explains the implications of advancing to a FTAA for U.S. agricultural trade, production, agri-environment, and foreign direct investment. The report also discusses market access and sanitary and phytosanitary topics related to the FTAA. It found that the FTAA would complement the multilateral negotiations in the Doha Development Agenda, which have a broader agenda for agricultural reform.
