Non Technical Summary
The University of Wyoming (UW) PSEP Coordinator has the responsibility for procuring and developing, safe and proper use of pesticides, training materials and conducting training sessions. New program aids are also developed by specialists for pesticide applicator training programs as needed. The Cooperative Extension Service field staff conducts private pesticide applicator training programs with materials and assistance provided by the PSEP Coordinator. The PEP Coordinator and other UW faculty and staff conduct and coordinate training for commercial pesticide applicators. Trainers are solicited from the Environmental Protection Agency, Wyoming Department of Agriculture, extension professionals, and pesticide industry personnel. Effectiveness of the training is based in part on the number of complaints or violations received by the Wyoming Department of Agriculture concerning the use of pesticides. If there is an increase in complaints or violations training efforts are then designed to deal with the problems areas.

Goals / Objectives
The objectives are to train pesticide applicators in the safe and proper use of pesticides. These funds will be used to help: 1) support training for pesticide applicator certification and recertification and 2) coordinate training activities in support of state pesticide applicator certification programs. The state PSEP coordinator will meet with the state lead agency counterpart to jointly plan priority activities for the year. Educational activities will include: presenting educational programs with a hands-on environment; developing and updating manuals and other training materials; developing and/or coordinating re-certification education programs; informing pesticide applicators of programs and materials though newsletter and web sites; and other educational programs that are effective.
Project Methods
One initial training session and one recertification session are conducted each year for commercial applicators. Training sessions for private applicators are on a county by county basis and are held as needed with each county holding one to two training sessions per year. County based educators provide training for private applicators. Potential pesticide applicators and applicators needing recertification are notified of training sessions through mass media, individual contacts or group contacts. Training for private pesticide applicators consists of a two to four hour session concentrating on the safe and proper use of pesticides, environmental issues and calibration. Commercial applicator training takes place at the state level. Training for new commercial applicators consists of 24 hours of basic classroom instruction in the safe and proper use of pesticides, environmental issues, weed science, entomology, plant pathology, small animal control and calibration. Training for commercial applicators requiring recertification consists of 12 hours of instruction dealing with updates on the subjects taught in the basic course. Training is evaluated at the end of training sessions via evaluation surveys. These surveys are handed out to participants with specific questions on the quality of the training and instructors. This information is used by the instructors to improve the quality of training by modification of areas of instruction.

Outputs
Target Audience: Private applicators – anyone over the age of 16 interested in the purchase and application of restricted use pesticides in the state of Wyoming. Commercial Applicators – anyone over the age of 16 interested in the purchase and application of restricted use pesticides in the state of Wyoming in exchange for fee for service. Changes/Problems: Nothing Reported What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? Training was provided to 20Extension Educators and Master Gardener Coordinators during UW Extension In-Depth training focusing on resources available and new materials being developed. Training Extension Educators and Master Gardener Volunteersand County MG Coordinators is an on-going effort. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest? Quarterly reports are being written and delivered to the Wyoming Department of Agriculture. Data on private applicator training Impact has been submitted to UW administration. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals? UW PSEP bulletins will be revised, published and made available electronically and via print mediums. Training materials will continue to be updated. Additional training resources will be leveraged from AAPSE members. Video will be taken of all sections of Commercial Applicator training in order to develop training modules that may be used for recertification purposes.

Impacts
What was accomplished under these goals? Materials have been updated in some instances to be more engaging and assist in learning. UW Bulletins are being updated. Conversations with collaborators for manual updates have been initiated. Website has been created and maintained which contains references, presentation materials, literature, and a calendar of up-coming training.
