Non Technical Summary
This proposal represents a request for support of the Cell Symposia which is offered yearly at the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) and the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) joint annual meeting. This symposia specifically focuses on cutting edge research at the cellular level focusing. In 2011, the focus will be on genetics approaches and specifically methods of utilization of bioinformatics. The goal of this symposia is offer a superior cell based basic research symposium at the ADSA-ASAS Joint Annual Meeting for both education of Animal and Dairy Scientists and to increase the involvement of scientists outside of traditional Animal And Dairy Science in the ADSA-ASAS Joint Annual Meeting.

Goals / Objectives
The goal of this symposia is offer a superior cell based basic research symposium at the ADSA-ASAS Joint Annual Meeting for both education of Animal and Dairy Scientists and to increase the involvement of scientists outside of traditional Animal And Dairy Science in the ADSA-ASAS Joint Annual Meeting. Each year over the next four years, topics will be chosen for an expanded review and in depth discussion of new information related to critical issues in animal production on the cellular level.
Project Methods
An international panel of invited speakers will deliver presentations related to various aspects of animal production on the cellular level. Using a number of model species with particular emphasis on livestock, the program should create opportunities for comparative discussion during the workshop. In addition to the invited speakers, all abstracts from the symposium are selected for platform presentation of studies related to the topics covered in the invited talks. Therefore the program provides a venue for presentations by a broad array of international speakers, and a number of women and young scientists to present their work to a large audience of animal and dairy scientists. In fact, since the inaugural year, the Cell Symposia has put specific emphasis on talks given by early career scientists and by women and minorities.
