Kentucky has approximately 14,000 certified private applicators and approximately 4,000 certified commercial applicators. Main thrusts of the program will be to provide information on reducing pesticide exposure of applicators through use of appropriate personal protective equipment, identificaton and assessment of pest problems, and an understanding of pesticides.

Goals / Objectives
The Kentucky Pesticide Safety Education Program will provide training modules, initial certification manuals,and continuing education programs for private and commercial pesticide applicators. It will cooperate with and coordinate the efforts with the Division of Environmental Services, Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Outputs will be training materials for use by county extension agents in private applicator training and presentations for commercial continuing certification.
Project Methods
The program will provide training manuals and continuing education materials for private and commercial applicators. Effectiveness of training will be evaluated by questionnaires completed by trainees and meeting attendees.

Progress 09/01/11 to 08/31/12

Outputs
OUTPUTS: 1,912 private applicators were trained by county extension personnel during the past year. All received information on topics such as pest identification and activity, pesticide selection and application, pesticide laws and regulations. 15 training meetings were conducted for commercial applicators and extension personnel for continuing education. PARTICIPANTS: Nothing significant to report during this reporting period. TARGET AUDIENCES: Nothing significant to report during this reporting period. PROJECT MODIFICATIONS: Nothing significant to report during this reporting period.

Impacts
Voluntarily returned surveys from commercial applicator meetings for turf and ornamental category 45% will change how they control insect and disease pests 33% will change how they manage wildlife problems 34% felt that they improved their problemsolving and decision making skills regarding pest control.
