Outputs OUTPUTS: The Pesticide Safety Education program provided certification and recertification conferences and training meetings for commercial and private applicators. Four regional commercial recertification conferences provided training for 3296 commercial applicators. At the county level over 100 programs provided recertification for 3870 farmer applicators. 529 commercial applicators attended initial certification workshops to prepare for licensing exams. DVD's and about 50 powerpoints were provide to Extension educators as train the trainer tools to use in certification and recertification schools.The program website was updated http://pested.osu.edu PARTICIPANTS: State Extension Specialists, County Extension ANR educators, Ohio Dept. of Health, Ohio Department of Transportation, Ohio Department of Natural Resources,Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association, Ohio Turfgrass Foundation, Ohio Agribusiness Association, Ohio Pest Management Association, representatives from pesticide manufacturers, distributors and other applicator groups. TARGET AUDIENCES: The target audience is anyone who applies pesticides in the state. Currently, approximately 28,000 individuals are licensed. Training is also done for trained servicepersons who work under the licensed applicators. PROJECT MODIFICATIONS: Not relevant to this project.
Impacts In the end of conference surveys respondents indicated that as the result of the pesticide education programs:89% had improved personal safety practices;94%had improved practices to protect the environment. 93% said pesticide safety education was important to maintain their business or job.
