Goals / Objectives
The objectives of this project are: 1) to develop a competitive grants program to meet the research and extension education needs of IPM programs for agricultural commodities and other settings in the region; 2) to manage a competitive grant process that will recommend the funding of projects that address the IPM needs of the region; 3) to report to state experiment station and extension service faculty and directors, national IPM program staff, and other others within and outside of the region the results of the competitive grants process; and 4) to interact with similar IPM programs, including other IPM Centers, in other regions and with national IPM program staff for the purpose of establishing national IPM program goals consistent with the goals of each region.
Project Methods
The Northeastern IPM Center has the responsibility to administer the competitive grants program. Input for the priorities to be addressed in the Request for Applications (RFA) will be solicited from an extensive variety of sources. The RFA will be posted on the Center's web site. An email message noting the posting will be sent to the deans, research and extension directors, IPM coordinators, SNP leaders, IWG leaders, etc. in the land grant universities in the region. In addition, appropriate administrators from the Veterinary Medicine colleges will be notified. Proposals will be reveiwed by a Relevancy Panel and by a Techncial Panel. The results will be combined to develop a list of proposals recommended for funding.

Outputs
OUTPUTS: The project director of this project serves as the grants manager for the Northeastern Region Integrated Pest Management (NE-IPM) Competitive Grants Program. He is responsible for distribution of the Request for Proposals and for arranging the peer review of each proposal. Review panels are assembled by the grants manager. Individuals on the Review Panel are university or government scientists from appropriate disciplines and are selected based on the types of proposals submitted. All members of the panel must be from outside the Northeastern region. The grants manager is responsible for insuring that the review is fair and impartial and that each proposal receives a thorough review. The proposal and all appropriate documents for the recommended projects are submitted to USDA/NIFA for final approval and contract award. The grants manager communicates reviewer comments to the primary project director of all submitted proposals. Proposals funded by this program can be found on the Northeastern IPM Center's website at http://northeastipm.org/grantsystem/. PARTICIPANTS: Nothing significant to report during this reporting period. TARGET AUDIENCES: IPM researchers and extension specialists in the Northeastern Region. PROJECT MODIFICATIONS: Nothing significant to report during this reporting period.

Impacts
The program impacts the implementation of IPM programs throughout the Northeastern region by providing funds for IPM program development and testing. Outreach is a very important part of all funded projects. An overarching goal of the program is to make results of this program known to clientele. Impacts of funded projects will be reported by the individual Project Directors.

Outputs
OUTPUTS: The project director of this project serves as the grants manager for the Northeastern Region Integrated Pest Management (NE-IPM) Competitive Grants Program. He is responsible for distribution of the Request for Proposals and for arranging the technical and relevancy reviews of each proposal. Review panels are assembled by the grants manager. The make-up of the Relevancy Panel is defined by the Northeastern IPM Center and consists primarily of program clientele and stakeholders. Individuals on the Technical Panel are university or government scientists from appropriate disciplines and are selected based on the types of proposals submitted. All members of the Technical Panel must be from outside the Northeastern region. The grants manager is responsible for combining the recommendations of both panels and developing a list of projects to be funded. The proposal and all appropriate documents for the recommended projects are submitted to USDA/NIFA for final approval and contract award.
