Project Methods
Existing resources will serve as the support base and it has been determined that the best avenue to project success involves the development of an educational program that includes education, motivation, support, and facilitation designed to encourage individuals to embrace and encourage a holistic model of healthy lifestyles, through physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The educational program will be developed by Wellness Center staff and community certified fitness instructors and will emphasize the development of healthy lifestyles, including components directed toward fitness, conditioning, nutrition, preventative health care, early detection and treatment. No such program exists on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, particularly one that offers services reservation wide. Upon educational program development completion, Wellness Center staff will work with the Vice President of Community Services and Vice President of Academics at Fort Peck Community College to ensure the program meets the needs and educational requirements required for Continuing Education Units (CEU) at Fort Peck Community College. Other major strategies to be undertaken during the course of this program will include a systematic approach to participant recruitment of the target audiences, and development of individualized program delivery methods. Utilizing the Poplar and Wolf Point Wellness Center facilities, project staff will provide critically needed outreach programs for dissemination of health and wellness oriented information on exercise and nutrition. Wellness Center staff will work with community certified Fitness Instructors to provide health education and exercise programs in each Wellness Center and to outlying American Indian communities, such as Brockton and Frazer.
