Non Technical Summary
The purpose of the project is twofold: on the one hand to it seeks to help develop a diverse work force by providing college students in natural resource disciplines with hands on interpretative experience under the guidance and mentoring of practicing professionals, while on the other hand it seeks to provide K-12 students in rural school districts surrounding Glacier National Park with an understanding of our natural and cultural heritage, how we manage and protect this heritage, and service learning projects-restoring native plants.

Goals / Objectives
The goal of the project is to provide professional internship opportunities for students interested in natural resource interpretation. Student interns will be used to support Glacier National Park's "Discover Glacier" program which seeks to provide education programs to K-12 students in rural school districts around Glacier National Park.
Project Methods
The interns will receive training in conducting National Park Service education programs as well as in background information about national parks and Glacier National Park's natural and cultural resources. They will develop educational materials to use with the school groups and create lesson plans that meet Montana Content & Performance Standards. Interns will work with the "Discover Glacier" Education Program. They will gain experience in environmental education principles and practices, outdoor group management and interpretation in a wilderness setting, bear safety, and Leave No Trace Principles.
