Outputs
OUTPUTS: Educational classes are required for all military personnel on the prevention of substance abuse. Classes are taught to all levels of soldiers on signs, effects and factors that contribute to substance abuse. Covered in classes are the Army Regulations that are in place and local rules and regulations that are in effect for the Installation and the state that pertain to alcohol usage. Classes are taught to recognize all types of substances that are currently being used by individuals and new tpes of substances that might come into vogue. PARTICIPANTS: Mr. Steve Henry is the Extension Agent that provides the educational programming at Ft. Sam Houston for the Army Substance Abuse Program. Texas AgrilLife Extension partners with the Ft. Sam Houston Army Substance Abuse program by developing an InterService Support Agreement that provides funding to Extension for the program and Teana Martin the Alcohol and Drug Control Officer at Ft. Sam Houston gives oversite to the program. Donna Martin is the Texas AgrilLife Extension Military Program Director and she gives oversite to the entire Texas Extension Miltiary program. Extension Agents that work on the military installation and provide the programmming are able to attend the Army provided substance abuse training that is held yearly. TARGET AUDIENCES: Target audience is soldiers and miltiary family memebers. Educational programs and activities are designed to increase awareness of substance abuse and to encourage soldiers and family members to seek assistance if needed. PROJECT MODIFICATIONS: Not relevant to this project.

Impacts
At Ft. Sam Houston the Army Substance Abuse program has one Extension Agent on the staff. His duty is to present classes on substnace abuse prevention. In FY 2007 at Ft. Sam a total of 190 classes were presented to 22,944 students. Total number of class hours was 963. The outcome was that Ft. Sam Houston was able to meet their Army regulated training reguirements.
