Goals / Objectives
To evaluate the efficacy of a vaccine for equine protozoal myeloencephalopathy (EPM) using a case-control design.
Project Methods
Compare the prevalence of vaccination for EPM among horses diagnosed with EPM and a group of horses diagnosed with neurologic conditions other than EPM. Compare the prevalence of vaccination for EPM among horses diagnosed with EPM and a group of horses admitted to the participating clinics for non-neurologic conditions and to compare the distributions of times since vaccination to admission to the referral hospital for cases of EPM versus each of the two control groups.

Progress 01/01/01 to 12/31/01

Outputs
The purpose of this study is to compare the prevalence of vaccination for equine protozoal myeloencephalopathy (EPM)among horses diagnosed with EPM and a group of horses diagnosed with neurologic conditions other than EPM. To date, we have be able to collect samples and information on a very small number of horses with suspected EPM. We are continuing with this project and will be able to complete our comparisons as more data becomes available.
