Goals / Objectives
Develop a comprehensive database of metadata for biological and georeferenced information for the Olympic Peninsula in Washingotn State that will be delivered to the Olympic Natural Resources Center (ONRC) and maintained by their geographic information system lab.
Project Methods
The database will be designed such that it will be easily accessible and understood by all users and clients who contact ONRC. In addition, the development of a web site for ONRC will be continued. This site will provide access to the database and contain pointers for databases at various agencies and non-givernment organizations. Protocols will be established for maintaining and updating metadata contributed to the database, and training will be provided to database users and cooperators.

Progress 09/01/98 to 12/31/03

Outputs
A Web-based clearinghouse for the Olympic Peninsula was developed in cooperation with the Olympic Natural Resources Center. This clearinghouse houses over 700 metadata records from 45 contributors for a wide range of data sources related to geospatial and natural resources information. All metadata comply with national standards of the Federal Geographic Data Committee and the National Biological Information Infrastructure. Data contributors for the clearinghouse include federal, state, county, tribal, academic, and private industry scientists and resource managers. In addition, key data sets and information sources have been added to the Clearinghouse. An educational module has been developed, and a maintenance manual for guiding future development of the Clearinghouse is nearly complete.

Impacts
The Olympic Peninsula Clearinghouse provides a central point of access for scientific data in the region. Making scientific information more readily available will enhance resource management on the Peninsula and communication regarding natural resource issues.

Progress 10/01/98 to 09/30/99

Outputs
A Web-based clearinghouse for the Olympic Peninsula was developed in cooperation with the Olympic Natural Resources Center. This clearinghouse houses 650 metadata records from 45 contributors for a wide range of data sources related to geospatial and natural resources information. All metadata comply with national standards of the Federal Geographic Data Committee and the National Biological Information Infrastructure. Data contributors for the clearinghouse include federal, state, county, tribal, academic, and private industry scientists and resource managers. In addition, key data sets and information sources are now included in the Clearinghouse.

Impacts
The Olympic Peninsula Clearinghouse provides a central point of access for scientific data in the region. Making scientific information more readily available will enhance resource management on the Peninsula and communication regarding natural resource issues.
