Progress 10/01/03 to 09/30/04
Outputs This program tries to find pest management products that are not registered for minor use crops. Also it tries to find replacement pest management tools for old compounds not reregistered. An emphasis is put on reducing resistance management by using compounds with different modes of action. The impact of this program is that it gives minor use growers such as vegetable farmers, nursery and greenhouse operators a mechanism in getting new pest management tools for their crops. This is the best option for minor use crop producers to get new pest management tools to use. The Oklahoma IR-4 program submitted 88 Pesticide Clearance Forms for Oklahoma to the National IR-4 program. Meetings were conducted with Oklahoma Vegetable Association, Ozark Crop Production Association, Oklahoma Watermelon Association, and Caddo County Vegetable Association concerning new needs to submit. Information about the minor use program was presented at the Oklahoma City farm show as well as the
Oklahoma Greenhouse and Nursery industry show. We provided data and support for Section 18's and 24c's on minor crops in Oklahoma. These included in 2004: CheckMite+ - Bee Hive Pest Control, ApiLife - Bee Hive Pest Control, Reflex - Snapbeans, Reflex - Peanuts, Terramaster Fungicide - Greenhouse Tomatoes, Dual Mangum - Spinach, and worked on all section 18 for soybean rust. IR-4 provided funding for two state specialists and the state liaison to travel to the IR-4 Food Use Workshop in Orlando, FL. in September 2004. Also the Oklahoma liaison traveled to the IR-4 Southern Region meeting at Wilmington NC in August, 2004.
Impacts The impact of this program is that it gives minor use growers such as vegetable farmers, nursery and greenhouse operators a mechanism in getting new pest management tools for their crops. This is the best option for minor use crop producers to get new pest management tools to use.

Progress 10/01/01 to 09/30/02
Outputs Oklahoma IR-4 submitted approximately 49 Pesticide Clearance Request forms for the year. Cooperators worked on special projects in their specialty field. One major importance to Oklahoma was pesticide use on cucurbits and greens. FQPA is hitting these production areas hard and finding alternatives is an on-going process. Oklahoma IR-4 provided state and extension personnel information from IR-4 headquarters. Circulation of publications, e-mail attachments, and other areas of communication accomplished this. Information pertaining to specific commodity groups was also circulated to respective board members and individuals working closely with that commodity. Oklahoma IR-4 provided additional information to specialists and commodity groups from EPA's Reregistration Notification Network. Meetings were conducted with Oklahoma Vegetable Association and the Ozark Crop Production Association concerning new needs. We provided data and support for Section 18s on minor crops in
Oklahoma. These included in 2001: CheckMite+ - Bee Hive Pest Control, Quadris - Strawberries, Reflex - Snapbeans, Spartan - Sunflower, Dual - Spinach. In 2002: CheckMite+ - Bee Hive Pest Control, Quadris - Strawberries, Reflex - Snapbeans, Spartan - Sunflower, Dual - Spinach. Data was also provided for a Section 24C for Dual on Peppers, Sandea for Watermelons in 2002 and Sandea on Squash and Cucumbers in 2001. Progress 10/01/95 to 09/30/96
Outputs Oklahoma continued the contacts with grower and applicator groups for minor crops. In addition, OSU maintained contact with OSU research and extension personnel interested in working with IR-4. Dr. Jonathan Edelson was provided support through NAPIAP to attend the National Food Use Workshop held in Orlando, FL. With NAPIAP support, Dr. Jim Criswell attended the National and Southern Region IR-4 Meetings held in Colorado Springs, CO. Numerous Pesticide Clearance Request forms were completed and provided to the Southern Region IR-4 office. Projects OSU research and extension personnel were willing to work on were presented at the regional meeting. There was concern expressed by Oklahoma and Texas about possible needs in Area VIII due to the lack of university and USDA-ARS personnel in that area. In 1996, the OSU vegetable working group met with growers, processors and Oklahoma Department of Agriculture officials to prioritize research needs for minor crops. These needs
were herbicides on cucurbits with emphasis on watermelons, herbicides and insecticides on processing greens and spinach.

Outputs Projects were identified and over 100 Pesticide Clearance Request forms were sent to the Regional IR-4 office. OSU Pesticide Applicator Education, NAPIAP, IR-4 and IPM programs as well as Drs. Edelson, Motes, Damicone and Sutherland met with producers and processors to priortize research/extension activities at OSU. The meeting was funded through PAE support. Drs. Motes and Damicone were sent to the Southern Region NAPIAP meeting. A Section 18 was submitted for Reflex on snap beans and Dual on spinach for use in Oklahoma. Less than 100 acres out of 1,200 were treated with Reflex. Information from USDA's Red-Alert were provided to grower and applicator groups.

Outputs IR-4 projects are primarily identification of willing participants, submitting Pesticide Clearance Request (PCR) forms, and obtaining field projects to benefit Oklahoma and other interested states. Six research/extension personnel were identified as IR-4 participants. Due to no support of ornamental projects in 1993 support for IR-4 ornamental projects evaporated. Four PCR forms were submitted on food crops. Information on mevinphos as it related to IPM in greens (mustard, collard, turnip and kale) and spinach production was provided to EPA and IR-4. Red-Alert notices were sent to extension staff and to major grower groups. IR-4's request for priority rating was conducted with cross reference to PIA's previous work.

Outputs IR-4 projects are primarily identification of willing participants, submitting Pesticide Clearance Request (PCR) forms, and obtaining field projects to benefit Oklahoma and other interested states. Association lists were updated with newsletters and numerous information letters went to Extension personnel and grower associations regarding re-registration and its effect on minor uses. Grower groups were encouraged to participate in the system. Information received from USDA-ARS through the NAPIAP program was transferred to the appropriate associations and grower groups. Presentations were made to the Oklahoma Christmas Tree Growers Association and Oklahoma Vegetable Growers Association concerning the loss of minor use pesticides. Attended the Southern Region IR-4 meeting in Savannah, GA. Cost of the above were absorbed by USDA-ES PIAP, USDA-CSRS NAPIAP and local extension monies.

Progress 10/01/91 to 09/30/92
Outputs Answered 380+ quest ons regarding pesticide education. 26% were certification/recertification, 8% safety, 8% disposal & endangered species. Applying Pesticides Correctly core manual revised; Ag Animal, Ag Plant, Forestry & Ornamental/Turf manuals revision begun in '92. Time series survey of PPE begun. Initial results for Service Technicians (ST) indicate mixing/loading-28% used chemical resistant (cr) coveralls, 48% cr gloves & 33% cloth/leather gloves; spraying-28% used cloth-leather gloves, 50% cr gloves & 33% cr coveralls. ST recertif. was completed in '92; accomplished in cooperation with Okla. Dept. of Agriculture (ODA). In '91 ODA conducted survey of major pesticide associations on topics to be presented for ST recertif. Based on results, 10 programs held statewide covering requested topics were presented by CES/ODA personnel. ODA verified pass rate at recertif. meetings exceeded pass rates at standard test site in Okla. City. OSU-PAE has been working with Stored
Grain IPM program. Stored Grain IPM held a 2 day grain fumigators workshop; hands on/attendees actively using air monitoring tubes, canisters, respirators, gas masks, did fit tests, 2 hr. problem solving session, etc. Discussed problem as to why certain decisions were made & if correct. Received very high comments from attendees/employers. Results indicate increase in placarding, notification, air monitoring & other safety considerations.
