Non Technical Summary
The long-term goal of this Nevada Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development project is to "Create and Build Capacity with Nevada's BFRs to own, operate and sustain viable agricultural operations in Nevada." The short-term goal is to support and mentor BFRs' in offering a safe and nutritious food supply, implement climate-smart practices, understand agricultural business planning, business feasibility and risk, and facilitate access to USDA and State agricultural assistance programs. Specific objectives are: 1) Create new BFRs through Small Acreage BFRDP Certification Program; 2) Increase Nevada's BFRs' entrepreneurship, business and financial management skills necessary to own, operate and sustain an agricultural operation; and 3) Train Nevada BFRs through individual Mentoring and Producer Roundtable Groups. Additional objectives are to link USDA agricultural assistance programs to BFRs and recruite, training and support Socially disadvantaged BFRs. There is 8.12% of the budget work with Military Veterans, and 18.62% of the budget to work with socially disadvantaged and limited resource. There is 6% of the overall all budget allocated to producer associations and urban farms to implement training.

Goals / Objectives
As determined by needs assessment results, and requests from farming and ranching non-government agencies (NGOs), the long-term goal of this Large Standard BFRDP Project Renewal is to Create and Build Capacity with Nevada's BFRs to own, operate and sustain viable agricultural operations in Nevada. The short-term goal is to support and mentor BFRs' in offering a safe and nutritious food supply, implementing climate-smart practices, understanding agricultural business planning, and facilitating access to USDA and State agricultural assistance programs. The three main objectives are to:Create new BFRs through Small Acreage BFRDP Certification Program.Increase Nevada's BFRs' entrepreneurship, business and financial management skills necessary to own, operate and sustain an agricultural operation.Train Nevada BFRs through individual Mentoring and Producer Roundtable GroupsAn additional two objectives are integrated into the overall project:USDA agricultural assistance programs will be included in all BFR programs.Socially disadvantaged BFRs will be targeted for specific assistance.
Project Methods
This project provides a BFRDP certification program, continous one-on-one mentoring, and outreach to socially-disadantaged and military producers. The Certification programs runs every spring, one-on-one mentoring is continuous, and the project provides speciality expertise in meat harvest and processing, apiltuculture, crop and livestock production,marketing, business planning and cash flows.
