Non Technical Summary
This project is designed to reach more food animal producers in our service area. We will be able to provide better, more consistent training and opportunities for students and producers. We hope this grant will not only improve our mobile services, but also help us to be more efficient in our services within ourhaul in facility. The equipment we will be adding to our arsenal include a "Silencer" tilt table with scales, a mobile semen warming unit, a dual vision microscope, as well as gates, alleyways, and a transfer wagon for better handling of the livestock we service. Our current computer system will allow us to track the increase in services we provide to our community and in the surrounding rural areas. If we succeed in hiring a third veterinarian, then we believe it will increase our services by 50 percent. This provides better service for our clients, better animal welfare and increased public safety in terms of transmittable disease potential and the assurance of a safe, nutrient dense food supply. It will also help us grow the next generation of food animal producers and veterinary professionals.

Goals / Objectives
This project is designed to develop and sustain veterinary services to provide better service and reach more food animal producers in Veterinary Shortage Service Area IN213 which is home to an overwhelming number of food animal premises and patients. It will also allow us to provide more organized and consistent training to all levels of students on appropriate food animal handling and treatment. The grant will improve our mobile services and provide more efficient and secure options for those clients that can avail themselves of our on-site facility services. We will be adding equipment to expand the offerings of our mobile services. A dual vision microscope with supplemental viewer will allow us to educate large animal producers and students on fecal and semen exams. The mobile semen warming unit will be used for multi-species semen analysis. The equipment for our large animal haul-in facility including 'Silencer" tilt table with scales, gates, Bud Box, alleyways, incinerator, surgical packs, and transfer wagon will allow us to expand the number of large animal patients we can serve by at least 33 percent.
Project Methods
The clinic records management system we utilize allows us to create reports of specific activities like Breeding Soundness Exams or Bovine C-Sections. These reports can include the amount of time associated with the services, as well as track client reports by species. We will be able to specifically track the use of the purchased equipment. Therefore, we will be able to report the use of the equipment, the increase in farm calls by species, and haul-in clinic usage. We can detail these reports by client type or even student usage. We will be able to complete the chart below for each year after receipt of the grant to specifically document the impact of the equipment. Additional lines may be added as we utilize the haul-in facility and the equipment and find additional uses. We will also be collecting data acquired through client, student extern, faculty and extension staff surveys. All these features will allow us to monitor and report the increase in services offered and number of clients served. Data is stored both in the cloud and on local hard drive. It can only be acquired with a login personalized for each employee with adjustable privileges and appropriate access for that employee. While we continue to marketour new facility and new equipment, we continue to search for a third veterinarianto help increase our productivity and efficiency. With the new marketing activities, we will be utilizing Facebook and other on-line platforms to advertise the purchase and installation of the equipment and student visits. We plan to use social media extensively, but also will continue to work with local printed media to feature the new facility and new equipment and our outreach to students.

Outputs
Target Audience:The target audience, at this point, is to our current clients as we are educating them on the current usage of our new equipment that has been purchased. Wewillexpand this audience as time allows as we plan to have 4-H beef weigh ins for surrounding counties in the years to come. We will be having FFA students and 4th year veterinary students scheduled to come in to our facility for learning experiences. So far this winter/spring of 2025, we have had 4 current veterinary students from 4 different universities perform externship/off campus block to gain experience in food animal veterinary practice. Changes/Problems:There have not been any major changes at this point. We are very happy with the new equipment we have purchased and it is working well. Clients are appreciative of the safe handling of the large animals that the equipment provides. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided?See above. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest?Individual tours to food animal producers, FFA students, and veterinary studentshave been given. An open house that showcases all new equipment was successful in March 2025. There was an estimate of 500-600 people in attendance at 3 different open houses. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals?Additional students for 2026 are currently being scheduled. We will have FFA students in the facility to showcase our new equipment. We will also continue to host veterinary students and animal science veterinary professors as their time allows.

Impacts
What was accomplished under these goals? The purchase and installation of the Silencer tilt table with scales was completed at the end of 2024. The custom gates and alleyways were completed in February 2025.During this reporting period, I have gained contacts with fourveterinary students at 4different institutions that will be completing their externships later this winter and spring 2025. We have also hada high school senior to complete her externship here during the spring 2025 second semester. Plans are for an additional high school senior to be here during the 2025-2026 school year. Two additional veterinary student interns have committed to January and March 2026.
