Goals / Objectives
The Potawot Community Food Garden Planning Project is a collaborative planning project by the United Indian Health Services' Community Nutrition Program (UIHS CNP), working with the California Center for Rural Policy, Intertribal Agricultural Council, and North Coast Growers' Assocation to create and implement a Comprehensive Strategic Plan with valuable community input and participation. This planning project will develop a strategic plan that works to address food security issues for low-income Native American people within our region, and will provide long-term solutions for a sustainable, culturally appropriate food system that empowers UIHS clients to live a life of cultural health and wellness.
Project Methods
The project will conduct a community food assessment of the Humboldt and Del Norte Counties, which will include: client surveys at local Tribal events; follow-up interviews and focus groups to participate in and lead efforts; resulting in: a plan to develop better food resources, nutrition services, affordable food access, sustainability and capacity-building to continue our support and services to the UIHS community.
