Non Technical Summary
The uniqueness of the Conference is the collaboration of three 1890 institutions, North Carolina A&T State University, South Carolina State University, and Virginia State University, and North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumers Service, working together to address the problems confronting the small-scale, minority, and veterans' farmers in their respective state. Also, the conference organizer will be working with 1862 North Carolina State University, local state USDA professionals' North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and NGOs for their input. The Conference will offer a field day where farmers can see firsthand how research and demonstration are conducted.

Goals / Objectives
The overall goal of the conference /field day is to educate a diverse group of socially disadvantaged farmers, including African Americans, women, Hispanics, and Native Americans in North Carolina. Other 1890 Virginia and South Carolina institutions will be invited to participate with their farmers and extension agents. This conference/field day will historically be the largest gathering of the farmers mentioned above in North Carolina and the surrounding states. The Conference will be offered face-to-face, and the presentation will be posted online. Diverse small farmers and agricultural professionals will serve on the planning and advisory committee.
Project Methods
The project will teach small farmers about agricultural production and marketing opportunities, new farm enterprises, heirs' property issues, human health, and farm safety. This Conference will provide the necessary education and training tools in priority areas, which include basic livestock, forest management, and crop farming practices; 2. Innovative farm, ranch, and private nonindustrial forest land transfer and succession strategies; 3. Entrepreneurship and business training; 4. Technical assistance to help beginning farmers and ranchers attain information that will teach them how to achieve farmland from retiring farmers and ranchers; 5. Financial and risk management training, including acquiring and managing agriculture credit; 6. Natural resources management and planning; 7. Diversification and marketing strategies; 8. Farm safety and awareness; 9. Food safety and recordkeeping, and 10. Other information that addresses climate change with climate-smart agriculture, food, and forestry solutions.
