Non Technical Summary
Many households in the United States participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). While SNAP has been shown to improve food security, low-income Americans, including SNAP participants, spend less on fruit and vegetables and have higher rates of obesity and diet-related diseases than higher-income Americans. To encourage SNAP participants to purchase healthier foods, policies have been proposed to either restrict SNAP benefits to healthy foods or to provide incentives to purchase healthier foods. Current policy has focused on incentives, with the implementation of federal programs such as the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) and the Healthy Fluid Milk Incentives (HFMI) program, as well as local initiatives such as North Carolina's Healthy Opportunity Pilots program. This project will organize an in-person workshop for researchers focusing on SNAP healthy eating incentives such as GusNIP. The workshop will enable researchers to get feedback on projects about SNAP healthy eating incentives and learn about other ongoing projects about SNAP healthy eating incentives.

Goals / Objectives
The overarching goal of this proposal is to begin the process of developing a collaborative working group on SNAP incentives by hosting an in-person conference. The proposed conference will allow researchers to present and receive feedback on current research investigating any aspect of SNAP nutrition incentive programs. In addition, the proposed conference will provide opportunities for researchers to network and discuss potential cross-discipline and cross-project collaborations.
Project Methods
Researchers will be invited to the in-person workshop, to be held in Auburn, AL, October 11-12, 2023. At the workshop, each researcher will present a research project relevant to SNAP healthy eating incentives. The other researchers will provide feedback. Researchers will also discuss plans for future research projects.

Progress 09/15/23 to 03/14/24

Outputs
Target Audience:Researchers working on projects investigating aspects of SNAP healthy eating incentives programs, such as GusNIP and Health Fluid Milk Incentives programs. Changes/Problems: Nothing Reported What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided?Training: Two Auburn University graduate students took part in the workshop, listening to the presentations and learning how to conduct research on SNAP incentives. Professional Development: All 17 researchers who attended the workshop were given peer feedback on projects. This feedback was designed to improve the research output from these projects. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest? The workshop involved 17 research presentations, which disseminated information about each project to other interested researchers. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals? Nothing Reported

Impacts
What was accomplished under these goals? On October 11-12, 2023, 17 researchers from academia, industry, government, and non-profits gathered together in Auburn, AL. Each researcher gave a presentation about a current research project on SNAP healthy eating incentives. Presentations were followed by a discussion about each project. Researchers gathered for more discussion about ways to improve research on SNAP incentives in additional informal settings.
