The overall goal of the University of Idaho Multicultural Scholars project is to recruit, retain, andgraduate more underrepresented minority (Hispanic, Black or African American, Asian, AmericanIndian or Alaska Native, or Hawaiian Native or Pacific Islander) undergraduate students within thefood, nutrition, and agricultural sciences programs of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.In alignment with the multicultural scholars program purposes, the College of Agricultural and LifeSciences will provide scholarships to underrepresented minority students to enhance recruitment,retention, and graduation of outstanding undergraduate students with the potential to enter graduateprograms, resulting in more multicultural highly qualified personnel available to work in the foodand agricultural industries and a pool of diverse individuals qualified to enter graduate training. Theprogram will provide 40 annual $5,000 scholarships to high quality underrepresented minoritystudents entering years 1-4 of their undergraduate degrees in food and nutrition or agriculture.Student success will be supported by the assignment of dedicated faculty mentors, engagement inundergraduate research, internships with industry partners, wrap-around student supports, and aglobal study abroad opportunity. All of these program components combine to create atransformative educational environment that assures student success and the graduation of highlyskilled multicultural scholars prepared to enter either the agriculture and food workforce or start agraduate program.

Goals / Objectives
The overall goal of the University of Idaho (UI) Higher Education Multicultural Scholars Program (MSP) is to recruit, retain, and graduate more underrepresented minority (URM) undergraduate students within the food, nutrition, and agricultural sciences programs of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS).Objectives:1. 90% of MSP scholars either enter the agriculture and food workforce or start a graduate program within one year of graduation.2. 90% of MSP scholars participate in student groups, leadership workshops, CALS ambassadors, and undergraduate research symposium.3. CALS will recruit, retain, and graduate 10% more URM students over the life of the program compared to 2022.4. 90% of MSP students report feeeling supported through dedicated mentorship, undergraduate research opportunities, targeted skill development, and social support.

Project Methods
MSP Scholars will be recruited during their final 2 years of high school and from the College of Southern Idaho, a Hispanic-Serving Institution.MSP scholars will:Be mentored by a dedicated consistent faculty advisor who will provide undergraduate research opportunities.Attend extracurricular leadership workshops each semester.Be introduced to a professional mentor in their career field.Participate in one or more summer internships.Have the opportunity to study abroad in Guatemala.Project evaluation from both student and faculty perspectives.
