Non Technical Summary
This project will support a conference in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on July 24-28, 2022. We hope to honor and encourage the future development of Native American leadership by inviting several young Native American leaders to attend the Western Governors' Leadership Institute and 2022 Annual Meeting of the Western Governors' Association. The goal of the Western Governors' Leadership Institute is to recognize and reward the effective exercise of leadership by young adults across the West, and to promote and encourage its future development. Tribal representation will not only benefit the Native American delegates but will enhance the quality of the program with rich cultural diversity and unique perspectives. This grant will permit us to sponsor a group of Native American delegates who will develop their own leadership skills and provide great value to the social exchange among emerging and existing leaders. Funds will also be used to bring in speakers who will provide tools, experience, and expertise to inspire these young adults to incite positive change in their communities.Upon conclusion of the leadership seminar and annual meeting, we believe that the delegates will have a better understanding of themselves as leaders and be better prepared to serve as effective leaders in their communities. The Western Governors' Leadership Institute represents a unique opportunity to assemble young adults from across the West and inspire them to lead us into the future.

Outputs
Target Audience:The Western Governors' Leadership Institute Forum was designed to recognize and reward the effective exercise of leadership by young adults accross the Western United States. young adults ages 21-25 from the 19 Western States and three U.S. territories represented by the Western Govenrors' Association were eligible to submit an application to take part in the forum. Changes/Problems:One of the issues faced at the beginning of the process was connecting with tribal candidates in ways that we could be assured were culturally appropriate. Our solution was to collaborate with the Western Extension Directors Association who assisted with the application and selection process for our tribal cohort, and educated our staff on points of cultural importance. Their close relationships with Western Tribes made them an invaluable partner as we worked to ensure the best possible experience for our trial delegates. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? The four day program is designed to provide young leaders with ample leadership training and opportunities for professional development. Delegates attend an exclusive one-day leadership forum where they converse with leaders across the West who share leadership skills, ideas, and lessons to assist the delegates with personalized leadership development. Following the leadership forum, delegates attend the annual meeting of the Western Governors' Association where they listen to panels of experts discuss pressing issues in the West, hear from state and Federal officials, and participate in a delegate panel. The meeting also provides a myriad of networking opportunities where delegates hone their networking skills and develop valuable connections. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest?Through this funding opportunity, the program was able to support a tribal delegation who fully participated in, and benefit from, the Western Governors' Leadership Institute. The tribal delegates were able to meet and interact with regional and national leaders, expand their professional networks, and participate in the building of leadership muscle and confidence. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals? All delegates are tracked into our alumni program where their opportunities for professional growth continues. The tribal delegates will have the opportunity to continue to develop their leadership skills through networks and opportunities provided by the Western Governors' Foundation. Opportunities include but are not limited to publication and public media offers, additional networking events with national and regional leaders, and access to exclusive leadership resources and materials. ?

Impacts
What was accomplished under these goals? Delegates participated in the dynamic and respectful exchange of ideas and opinions with each other as well as with thought leaders across the West. As part of the leadership forum, they heard from, discussed, and asked questions of current and former Governors, Governors' staff, Presidents, and CEOs. Throughout the experience, delegates were presented with tools to build leadership muscle and confidence. Delegates were also recognized as emerging leadership talent. They were honored on stage by Governors, congratulated in person on their accomplishments by prominent leaders in the West, recognized by sponsors of the Western Governors' Association, and publicized by media outlets across the region.
