Non Technical Summary
The Latinx population is the fastest-growing demographic in the US, yet proportionally fewer Latinx students receive baccalaureate degrees, and fewer still go on to graduate and professional programs in the Food, Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Human (FANH) Sciences. To address this participation gap and increase career- or graduate program-ready graduates in the FANH sciences, this Multicultural Scholars Program will provide scholarships to Latinx students with family histories of migrant or seasonal agricultural work (MSFW). The MSP will collaborate with OMLI (Oregon Migrant Student Leadership Institute), OSU CAMP (Oregon State University College Assistance Migrant Program), and OSU CAS (College of Agricultural Sciences). OMLI (summer program for high school MSFW students) and CAMP will handle recruitment. CAMP will provide academic, financial and social support and culturally appropriate peer mentoring during scholars' first year. MSP Scholars will major in one of CAS's diverse FANH majors, participate in professional mentoring, leadership training, and experiential learning, and complete an internship in the private sector, government, extension, or research. This program will increase the numbers of MSFW students with scientific and professional competencies to meet the technologically advanced needs of the 21st century food and agricultural systems workforce. Qualitative and quantitative methods of evaluation will be used to ensure the project is being implemented as intended. Surveys, interviews, focus groups, data on retnetion, GPA, and graduation will collected from CAS and OSU during the implementation of the project (formative) and at the end of the project (summative evaluation). The ultimate goal is to increase the number of migrant and seasonal farm worker students in CAS STEM Majors and entering the FANH workforce.

Goals / Objectives
1. Recruit, retain, and graduate 5 MSP scholars from migrant and seasonal farm worker backgrounds.2. Provide academic, social, and peer mentoring for 100% of the MSP scholars, to support their academic success and personal well-being.3. Provide career and graduate school readiness preparation and advising to 100% of the MSP scholars.4. Ensure that 100% of the MSP scholars participate in at least one experiential opportunity.5. Provide MSP scholars with at least one activity that supports the development of leadership skills.
Project Methods
The MSP project has three parts: 1) Utilize the effective recruiting strategies already practiced by OMLI and CAMP to identify strong MSFW candidates to become MSP Scholars; 2) Partner with CAMP to provide MSP Scholars with academic, financial and social support as well as culturally-appropriate peer mentoring during their first year; 3) Provide MSP Scholars with core and specialized knowledge and career training in their chosen fields within FANH Sciences through their enrollment in one of the 12 STEM majors in OSU CAS. MSP Scholars will take part in CAS's diverse resources and opportunities, which include experiential learning, including research and internships; career development and job fairs; leadership training; service learning; and FANH-centered international experiences. Evaluation and Assessment: Current research, past knowledge, and personal experiences informed the development of the methods of evaluation and assessment plan, which comprises both quatifiable outcome measures an reflective observation (qualitative). The project will conduct semi-annual evalautions, gatherinng and discussing data, making recommendations, and using results for reports and program improvements. Surveys will be used to collect formative and summative data. MSP methods of evaluation are specifc to each of the main proposed objectives of the project.

Target Audience: The target audience for this reporting period includes migrant and seasonal farm worker students. The College of Agricultural Sciences collaborated with the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) to identify and recruit project participants. Further, CAMP collaborates with the Oregon Migrant Education Program (MEP) and the Oregon Migrant Education Student Center (OMESC) to dissiminate information about the project. CAMP and MEP dissiminate project information through the MEP's Graduation Specialists who refered and help students to complete the application. Also, CAMP informed migrant participants at the Oregon Migrant Leadership Institute summer program and through presentations to MEP staff and through social media such as Facebook and Instagram. Changes/Problems:There are no major changes from what was proposed in the grant application that would change the scope of the grant. We had difficulty getting the 5 participants in Y1 due to COVID. Most of recruitment had to be done remotely, and our target population is hard to reach remotely. Because many are migrant students, first-generation, and low-income students, it makes it more difficult to reach out to this group of students. We hope to complete the cohort by April 2022 and have the 5 students fully enrolled at OSU and in the program in fall 2022. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? Nothing Reported How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest?Because the MSP scholars started their participation in the program in fall 2021, no results have been dissiminated to key stakeholders. OSU higher up adminiastration is aware of the project and its goals, including the activities bering accomplished. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals? We hope to have the full cohort (5 students) by the next reporting period. The student recruitment and selection should be completed by April 2022, and students provided an orientation prior the 2022 fall term. We also plan to have at least one experiencec learning completed. We're working for a project in Puerto Rico during the 2022 summer. This will be at least a week-long project. During the fall 2022 we plan to start with the graduate school career readiness advising and also advise students for career opportunities. The College of Agricultural Sciences advisor will start working with each of the partcipants guiding them for opportunities in career and graduate school.

      Impacts
What was accomplished under these goals? 1. Three MSP scholars from migrant and seasonal farm worker (MSFW) backgrounds were recruited to the project. This year was difficult to recruit students from MSFW backgrounds due to COVID. From our experience, we lost few students because they decided to attend local community colleges with the intention to transfer to OSU after completing their associate degrees. Our intention is to recruit the additional two students for the next academic year. 2. All three MSP scholars are receving academic support through intrusive advising, summer bridge program, tutoring, study hours, enrollment in smaller classes through the EOP program, and through the support of mentors. Each student is paired with a peer mentor to help them to navigate their college experience. 3. We just completed the first term (fall term) and this goal has not been done yet. We expect the to provide career and graduate school readiness in year 2. 4. Beacuse of the pandemic, no experiential learning activity was completed. However, we are planning to bring the MSP scholars to Puerto Rico in the summer 2022 for their first experiential opportunity. 5. All three MSP scholars participated in the CAMP Summer Bridge Program where students met other participants from various programs at OSU and participante in different leadership tracks and lead out some activities during the Summer Bridge program.
