What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided?Leadership Retreat We had a mini-retreats each Spring and Fall and we have our summer retreat with MANOS scholars to check their progress and the support needed for the semester. Also, ensuring students make the proper progress in developing learning goals, and developmental plans to succeed in the year. See the flyer below. Fall 2024: Before class started in Fall 2024, a leadership retreat took place to get students to get to know each other, talk about MANOS expectations, and provide leadership training and development. MANOS retreat was merged with another Scholar program called SALUDABLES and Learning to Lead (USDA grant). It aligns with the same leadership retreat objectives and allows students to increase their network, peer mentoring, and support group opportunities among scholars. See below the flyer and agenda. Here is a summary of students' activities during the retreat. They reflected on events attended, skills I need to develop next semester, academic and personal goals, barriers and/or difficulties, best moments, worst moments, and what they learned last semester at a professional and personal level-takeaways. Attend an industry/agency-supported symposium, meeting, or convention. MANOS scholars Fernando Gutierrez and Pola Romero attended the following conferences: HACU conference in Aurora, Colorado. We would like to explore upcoming opportunities to renew/extend this program for future years. Current MANOS Scholars will be meeting with their Faculty Advisors and Academic Advisors in February to discuss their academic year course plan. The discussions will also include their career plans and possible internship industry opportunities that match their career goals and conference opportunities. We will also continue to explore Special Experiential Learning opportunities. MANOS Scholars will attend Spring and Fall leadership retreats, conferences, professional events, and opportunities. They will be enrolled in their experiential courses, including internships and undergraduate research. For more information, contact Dr. Tanya Hodges- Regional Academic Programs Manager University of Arizona - Yuma thodges@email.arizona.edu. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals? The selection of the first three students for this scholarship was a complex process because the professional and personal quality of those applying to the MANOS Scholarship was outstanding. The students offered the best version of themselves during the interviews and supported the decisions made by the professionals of the evaluation committees. The MANOS Scholars were announced on May 13 at the 2021 UAZ Yuma graduation reception. Their families and friends attended, which showed enthusiasm and support to the students and their families. The Scholars have traveled, met with Mentors, and have had a great first year. They will be meeting with their Faculty Advisors and Academic Advisors in May to discuss their academic year 2022-2023 course plan. The discussions will also include their career plans and possible internship industry opportunities that match their career goals. The recruitment process for the second MANOS 2022 cohort has been completed, applications are in, and a preliminary review has been. Student interviews will begin on April 12, 2022. Cohort 2 selection process will follow the same protocols as Cohort 1. See the flyer in full report https://arizona.box.com/s/fdd561ptenl8ntv0rkcjvj31a15w8068.
