Non Technical Summary
Universities Fighting World Hunger (UFWH) is a global higher education movement focused on students, administrators, and faculty raising awareness, taking action, and advocating in the area of food and nutrition insecurity. Food insecurity is directly related to poor physical and mental health outcomes (El Zein et al., 2018; Shipley & Christopher, 2018); thus, it is imperative that today's leaders increase knowledge, share evidence-based strategies, and develop best practices to end food insecurity both locally and globally. The 2024 UFWH Summit is designed to provide a space for the next generation of college student leaders to increase knowledge, share evidence-based strategies, and build networks with regards to raising awareness, taking action, and advocating for changes to combat food and nutrition insecurity. The Summit is directly linked to the Program Area Priority, 3c. Diet, Nutrition, and the Prevention of Chronic Diseases, as the Summit aims to increase knowledge, share evidence-based strategies, and build networks to support the goal of achieving food and nutrition security. Specifically, the Summit will highlight use of culturally and contextually appropriate approaches for tackling food and nutrition insecurity and corresponding disparities, which aligns with the Program Area Priority Approach to improve food security for racial/ethnic minority populations, underserved populations, rural, or remote populations through evidence-based approaches. Further, the Summit also will address critical current and future effects of climate change on food systems, which supports addressing the intersection between climate change, food systems, and food and nutrition security.

The UFWH Summit 2024 will not only celebrate its strong history but also push forward to continuing to convene, collaborate, and multiply best practices. The UFWH Summit 2024 is expected to reach 250 university student leaders and stakeholders. Through engaging sessions and hands-on activities and events, attendees will increase their knowledge and understanding of integral approaches and intersectionality of the work to end food and nutrition security. Student leaders also will have the opportunity to learn from and network with others engaged in the work both on campus and across a multitude of sectors building a greater understanding of best practices and inspiring these young leaders to use their discipline to impact hunger professionally and personally. In addition to information gathered through registration, attendance, and participation, a post-summit evaluation will be conducted to measure impact and outcomes.
