Progress 10/01/18 to 09/30/19
Outputs Target Audience:Agricultural Agents of the Agricultural Extension Service. It is expected that they will act as "train-the-trainers" and educate 4-H Youth and general public within their municipalities. Changes/Problems:We expect two major problems: The time period available to find and take pictures of the trees and shrubs (that are going to be included in the curriculum) because we want them to have flowers and seeds, and those related to the time the editor will take to review the curriculum. Also, for the localization of the Island, it is always present the probability of a major storm that can disrupt the dailywork. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? This project provided the opportunity to train AES's volunteers in the topic of palm and woody plant material for urban areas and plant identification. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest? We wanted to provide and disseminate information related to urban forestry to the general public, and that was achieved through the conference and the educational table, because the participants came from different municipalities of the island. Also was achieved through the two 2-hours each, live radio programs offered, because the radio station has a public of around 10,000 people. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals?During the next reporting period we expect to finish the curriculum and send it to the editor, prepare the website (in Spanish) and offer more radio programs.
Impacts What was accomplished under these goals?
During this project period, and under these goals: two (2) 2-hours live radio programs, an educational conference and an eduacational table were offered to the general public and AES's volunteers. The topic of the first radio program was the impact of hurricanes in urban and rural forestry, and the other radio program was about the eco-systemic benefits of the urban forest. The educational conference was related to plant and wood material for urban areas and the educational table provided orientation rerlated to invasive species awareness and offered educational written material for those interested. The AES's personnel received educational material related toinvasive species awareness.

Progress 01/27/17 to 09/30/17
Outputs Target Audience:The target audience is the Agricultural Agents of the PRAES Changes/Problems: During the development of this project, two hurricanes, "Irma" and "María" hit the Island directly. This caused a loss of electricity and water supply for the whole Island, the access to internet have been very limited and communications are difficult. All of this caused a delay in the progress of the project, but we expect that the utilities will recover slowly, and we will be able to keep working in it. Despite these natural disasters and the utilities actual condition, Puerto Rico Agricultural Extension Service (PRAES) facilitated the creation of a coalition of professionals of other institutions (public and private), to work together to send the same message to the public about the best management practices for urban trees that suffered from slow to severe storm impact and promote a healthy urban forest. The information needed for that is being compilated and will be integrated to the PRAES curriculum. What opportunities for training and professional development has the project provided? The training for trainers to be offered will be developed after the curriculum is finished. How have the results been disseminated to communities of interest? The project results are not disseminated at this point, because it is in progress. What do you plan to do during the next reporting period to accomplish the goals? We plan to finish developing the curriculum and be in the revision phase.
Impacts What was accomplished under these goals?
During FY 2017 we were working in the development of what topics will be included in the curriculum. The final layout was prepared and the development of each topic is in progress.
