Goals / Objectives
The purpose of this Agreement is to establish a framework for the preservation of voucher specimens of seed cultivars issued Certificates of Protection under the Plant Variety Protection Act (Public Law 91-577) at the National Laboratory for Genetic Resources Preservation (NLGRP), located in Fort Collins, CO.
Project Methods
The Plant Variety Protection Office (PVPO) issues plant variety protection for new seed cultivars and the voucher specimen for these cultivars are sent to NLGRP for preservation during the 20 years the cultivars are covered under Plant Variety Protection. Upon expiry of the PVP, the voucher specimens become the property of the ARS National Plant Germplasm System. Activities are coordinated between the PVPO and NLGRP for the safe storage and release of the cultivars.
