Goals / Objectives
Objective of study is to determine the effects of timing and severity of defoliation, interand intra-specific competition, and drought and their interactions on the persistence and production of western wheatgrass tillers in native mixed-grass prairie.
Project Methods
Growth dynamics of in-situ groups of varying densities of western wheatgrass tillers will be monitored under imposed, rainout shelter drought (D) and ambient control (C) conditions. Tillers cohorts will be isolated utilizing 8" PVC pipe driven into the ground about 12". Research plots will be located inside 25 x 25 m exclosures constructed on lands that have a long grazing history.
